Frozen Pineapple & Tropical Fruit Mix (IQF Chunks, Tidbits and Blends)

IQF MD-2 and Smooth Cayenne pineapple chunks and tidbits, and declared tropical blends, from Thailand, Costa Rica, Viet Nam and the Philippines

Frozen pineapple is peeled, cored and cut fruit, and the buyer specifies the variety, the cut, the Brix minimum and the defects. MD-2, sold as Golden, is the main export variety of Costa Rica and is widely grown in the highlands of Mindanao in the Philippines alongside Queen; Thailand's processing pineapple is Smooth Cayenne, known locally as Pattavia. Cuts are chunks, tidbits, dices and rings or half-rings, and the specification states the size and tolerance, colour, the share of core, eye and peel fragments, translucent or fermented pieces, and zero tolerance for foreign matter such as stones, glass, plastic, metal, hair and wood, with metal detection at the packer. Grade A is uniform, well-coloured fruit for retail, smoothies and foodservice; Grade B and industrial grades go to juice, puree and ingredient use. Tropical mixes combine pineapple with mango and other tropical fruit in a stated recipe, and each component is declared by percentage and origin on the specification and label; the importing country's customs broker confirms the tariff line for a mix, which is commonly 0811.90. Frozen pineapple has no six-digit HS code of its own and sits in HS 0811.90, so the 2024 UN Comtrade export declarations below cover the whole subheading: Costa Rica USD 102 million and 60,600 MT (the USA took USD 56 million, Belgium USD 9 million, Canada USD 7 million), the Philippines USD 56 million and 27,500 MT, and Thailand USD 689 million, of which USD 644 million went to China, with the USA (USD 17 million) and Japan (USD 12 million) next; Viet Nam did not appear in the 2024 preview data for this subheading.

Pineapple is not a single-season crop. Costa Rica harvests all year with a peak from March to July, and Thailand has two seasons, a summer crop from February to June and a winter crop from October to December, so frozen pineapple is available year-round and the offer states the production month. Because the fruit is eaten raw in smoothies and desserts, the food safety file matters: a BRCGS or IFS certified freezing plant, GlobalG.A.P. or an equivalent at farm level, microbiology and residue results per lot against the destination's MRLs, and worker hygiene and water controls against hepatitis A and norovirus where the buyer's policy asks for evidence. Product ships in 10 kg cartons, 400-500 kg bins and retail bags at -18 °C or colder in 40-ft high-cube reefers on FOB, CFR and CIF terms, priced per MT by variety, cut, grade and recipe. Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.
