Coal & Coke

Thermal coal, coking coal & met coke in Supramax to Capesize lots

CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers the three coal trades that share a hold but not a buyer: thermal (steam) coal bought on heat by power plants and cement kilns, coking coal bought on coke strength and fluidity by coke ovens and steelworks, and metallurgical coke bought on ash, CSR and size by merchant blast furnaces, foundries and ferro-alloy smelters. The seaborne supply is concentrated. UN Comtrade 2025 export declarations under HS 2701 show Indonesia at 390.9 million MT (USD 63/MT average), Australia at 355.6 million MT (USD 116), South Africa at 72.1 million MT (USD 77), the USA at 52.8 million MT (USD 189) and Canada at 36.8 million MT (USD 145); under HS 2704 Indonesia exported 7.15 million MT of coke at USD 202/MT and the USA 0.90 million MT at USD 409. We work each enquiry against SGS or Intertek certification on the buyer's own basis, structure Supramax, Panamax and Capesize parcels on FOB and CFR terms, and because CBIL also runs a chartering desk (LaycanDesk) the freight leg is quoted with the cargo.
