Chrome & Nickel Ore, Ferroalloys

Chromite, nickel laterite, ferrochrome, FeSi & SiMn for smelters and steel mills

CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers the two ends of the ferroalloy chain: the ores that feed submerged-arc furnaces and the alloys those furnaces sell to steel mills. Chromite lumpy and concentrate are bought by Chinese and Indian ferrochrome smelters on Cr₂O₃ and the chromium-to-iron ratio; nickel laterite is bought by nickel pig iron, ferronickel and HPAL plants on Ni, Fe and moisture and ships as an IMSBC Group A cargo; high-carbon ferrochrome, charge chrome, ferrosilicon 75 and silicomanganese are bought by stainless, long-product and foundry melt shops on carbon, aluminium, phosphorus and sulphur ceilings. UN Comtrade 2025 export declarations put South Africa at 23.79 million MT of chrome ore (USD 220/MT) and 1.97 million MT of ferroalloys (USD 1,038/MT), and India at 2.63 million MT of ferroalloys to 109 destinations led by Korea, the USA, Italy, the UAE, Japan, Turkiye and Egypt. Ores move in Handysize and Supramax parcels, alloys in jumbo bags in containers or breakbulk, on FOB, CFR and CIF terms, and because CBIL also runs a chartering desk (LaycanDesk) the freight leg is quoted with the cargo.
