Sugar

CBIL brokers sugar across the full grade ladder, connecting mills, refiners and traders with beverage manufacturers, confectioners, bakers, food processors and retail packers. Sugar is graded on ICUMSA, a colour scale measured in International Units where a lower number means a whiter crystal: ICUMSA 45 is the refined white export benchmark, 100 to 150 covers mill and crystal white, and 600 to 1,200 is raw sugar. Alongside colour sit polarisation, the sucrose percentage that determines value in a raw contract, plus moisture, ash and invert sugar. Two exchanges set the reference: ICE No. 11 in New York prices raw sugar in US cents per pound and ICE No. 5 in London prices white sugar in dollars per tonne, and the gap between them — the white premium — is what a refiner actually earns. Supply moves in 50 kg PP bags, 1 MT jumbo bags, containers and bulk vessels against SGS certification and full export documentation. Starch sugars are a separate trade inside HS 1702 and are bought on dextrose equivalent and fructose content rather than ICUMSA: glucose syrup at DE 38-42 and 60-63 in drums, IBCs, flexitanks and tankers; dextrose monohydrate and anhydrous at 99.5% minimum D-glucose in food and pharmacopoeia grades; HFCS-42 and HFCS-55, labelled in the EU as glucose-fructose and fructose-glucose syrup; maltodextrin by DE band; and crystalline fructose at 98% minimum, each against a certificate of analysis to Codex CXS 212-1999 or the named standard.
