Vacuum Gasoil (VGO), Low- and High-Sulphur, for FCC & Hydrocracker Feed

Vacuum gasoil is the heavy distillate a refinery draws off its vacuum distillation unit, and it exists to be cracked: it is the classic feed for fluid catalytic crackers making gasoline and olefins and for hydrocrackers making diesel and jet. Refiners buy it when their own vacuum units cannot fill their conversion units, so the trade is cargo-sized and quality-driven, declared under HS 2710.19 with the other heavy petroleum oils. Sulphur splits the market into low-sulphur VGO, which a cracker can run with little or no pretreatment, and high-sulphur VGO, which needs hydrotreating first. Platts assesses 0.5%, 1% and 2% sulphur VGO on the US Gulf, Atlantic and West Coasts as differentials to WTI and as outright prices, and Northwest European low- and high-sulphur VGO values move with the gasoline crack because gasoline is what an FCC makes.

What a refiner checks beyond sulphur is what poisons the unit. Nickel promotes dehydrogenation and turns feed into coke and gas; vanadium destroys the zeolite in FCC catalyst; conventional FCC feed is wanted below 1 wt% Conradson carbon, and typical gas oil feeds carry under 0.5 wt% CCR and around 0.1-0.2 ppm nickel plus vanadium; nitrogen and density raise hydrogen consumption and catalyst deactivation in a hydrocracker. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers VGO against the producing refinery named on the certificate of analysis, SGS or Intertek quantity and quality inspection at the load terminal covering sulphur, Ni+V, CCR, nitrogen, density and distillation, and a named buyer or charterer. Deals built on tank storage receipts, dip-test authorisations, SCO/ICPO/FCO sequences or advance fees are not worked; an inspection report proves quality, not title, and the Port of Rotterdam's storage-spoofing blacklist now runs to more than 1,250 fake terminal websites. VGO ships as a MARPOL Annex I oil cargo in product tankers on FOB and CIF terms, heated where pour point requires, priced by reference to Platts or Argus. Send the sulphur grade, metals and CCR limits, tonnage, discharge port and laycan, and the enquiry is screened and worked against it.

Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.
