Coconut Water (Pure and Flavoured, UHT Aseptic Cartons, Cans, PET and HPP Chilled)
Pure and flavoured coconut water in UHT aseptic cartons, cans and PET, or HPP chilled, from Thai, Philippine, Sri Lankan and Brazilian packers
Coconut water is the clear liquid inside the coconut, and the pack and process decide how it travels. Most retail coconut water is UHT-treated and filled aseptically into cartons, cans or PET, and is shelf-stable; high-pressure processed (HPP) coconut water is not heated, keeps more of the fresh taste, and must stay refrigerated, with published shelf lives of about 30 to 60 days chilled against 6 to 12 months for UHT packs, so HPP travels in reefer containers and UHT in dry containers. Bulk coconut water for packers moves in 180-250 litre aseptic bags. Classification follows what is in the pack: US Customs has classified pure coconut water under HS 2009.89 as the juice of a single fruit, and flavoured coconut water or coconut water with added sugar under heading 2202 as other non-alcoholic beverages (2202.99). In the EU the Fruit Juice Directive treats coconut water as a fruit juice, so preservatives may not be added, and the AIJN reference sets a minimum of 3.5 °Brix (4.5 °Brix reconstituted); European retailers have removed products for undeclared sulphites, added sugar and results outside AIJN values. For Europe, the Philippines is the leading supplier, followed by Thailand, Sri Lanka and Brazil; Viet Nam is growing from a small share, and Indonesia ships little to Europe because of customs duties. The Philippines exported about 148,000 MT to Europe in 2024 and Thailand about 454 million litres. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 2009.89, which covers coconut water with every other single-fruit juice not named elsewhere, total USD 3.51 billion and about 2.0 million MT across 115 reporters: Thailand USD 727 million and 683,000 MT, the Netherlands USD 289 million, Poland USD 244 million, Germany USD 219 million, Türkiye USD 193 million, the Philippines USD 165 million and 166,000 MT, Brazil USD 148 million, Saudi Arabia USD 130 million and the USA USD 113 million. Those are subheading totals, not coconut water offers.
The buyer is an importer-distributor, a supermarket private-label desk, a health-food or convenience chain, a smoothie and beverage maker buying bulk, or a hotel and catering supplier. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers coconut water from packers in Thailand, the Philippines, Viet Nam, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Brazil, in the packer's own brand or the buyer's private label; third-party brands come only from the brand owner or its authorised distributors, because parallel imports carry counterfeit, diversion and customs risks. European buyers expect BRCGS, IFS or FSSC 22000 food safety certification and often SGF/IRMA certification. Each lot carries the packer's certificate of analysis for Brix, sugars, acidity and microbiology, the origin authority's health certificate, a certificate of origin and a halal certificate from a body the destination accepts, reviewing any flavours and their ethanol carriers against GSO 2538. EU-bound coconut water is checked against contaminant limits in Regulation (EU) 2023/915 and the microbiological criteria in Regulation (EC) No 2073/2005; Gulf labels follow GSO 9 with Arabic text and production and expiry dates; and Saudi imports are registered with the SFDA by the importer. Cartons and trays move palletised in 20-ft dry containers, or reefers for HPP, on FCA, FOB, CFR and CIF terms, priced per carton or per litre for bulk; minimum runs are confirmed per product and pack. Send the product, process, pack, label and discharge port, and the enquiry is screened and worked against it.
Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.

Coconut Water (Pure and Flavoured, UHT Aseptic Cartons, Cans, PET and HPP Chilled) — buyer questions
What is the difference between UHT and HPP coconut water?
UHT coconut water is heat-treated and filled aseptically, so it is shelf-stable; published figures give 6 to 12 months unopened. HPP coconut water is pressure-treated without heat, keeps a fresher taste and must stay refrigerated, with published shelf lives of about 30 to 60 days. HPP therefore ships in reefer containers and UHT in dry containers.
Which HS code applies to coconut water?
US Customs has classified pure coconut water under 2009.89 as a single-fruit juice, and flavoured coconut water or coconut water with added sugar under heading 2202 as other non-alcoholic beverages. The importer's broker confirms the national line for the actual formulation.
Which origins supply coconut water to Europe?
The Philippines is the leading supplier to Europe, followed by Thailand, Sri Lanka and Brazil; Viet Nam is growing from a small share, and Indonesia ships little to Europe because of customs duties. European buyers expect BRCGS, IFS or FSSC 22000 certification and AIJN-compliant composition.
How is coconut water shipped, and what is the minimum order?
Shelf-stable cartons, cans and PET move palletised in 20-ft dry containers, HPP packs in reefers and bulk coconut water in 180-250 litre aseptic bags, on FCA, FOB, CFR or CIF terms. Minimum runs, especially for private-label packs, are confirmed with the packer per product and pack.
