Juice Drinks & Nectars (100% Juice, Nectars and Juice Drinks in Aseptic Cartons, PET and Cans)

Ready-to-drink 100% juice, nectars and juice drinks in aseptic cartons, PET and cans, bought on fruit content

Finished juice is sold in three grades, and the fruit content is what the buyer pays for. Fruit juice is 100% juice, from concentrate or not; a fruit nectar is juice or purée with added water and usually sugar, with a legal minimum fruit content; and a juice drink is a flavoured drink with a lower juice share. In the EU, Directive 2001/112/EC sets those minimums in Annex IV: 50% for fruits whose juice is palatable as it is, such as orange, apple, peach and pineapple, and 25% for low-acid, pulpy or highly flavoured fruits such as mango, guava and banana, and the nectar label states "fruit content: ...% minimum". The customs code follows the same line. Unfermented juices without added spirit, whether or not containing added sugar, stay in heading 2009 under the subheading for the fruit, while juice diluted with water - nectars and juice drinks - is classified in the EU's Combined Nomenclature under HS 2202.99 as other non-alcoholic beverages. Retail packs are 200 ml and 1 L aseptic cartons, PET bottles and cans; aseptic filling sterilises the juice and the pack separately so the drink is shelf-stable without refrigeration, and the best-before date is set by the packer per pack and stated on the proforma. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 2202.99 total USD 13.64 billion and about 9.8 million MT across 122 reporters: Germany USD 1.58 billion, the Netherlands USD 1.09 billion, the USA USD 894 million, Thailand USD 839 million, Austria USD 669 million, Mexico USD 600 million, France USD 460 million, Spain USD 344 million, Italy USD 341 million, Poland USD 210 million, Malaysia USD 183 million, Indonesia USD 121 million and Saudi Arabia USD 113 million. That subheading also carries ready-to-drink tea, coffee and other drinks, so those are declared export values for all of it, not offers.

The buyer is an importer-distributor, a supermarket private-label desk, a school, airline or catering supplier, or a wholesaler for convenience retail in the Gulf, Africa, South Asia and Europe. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers juice, nectars and juice drinks from packers in Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Italy, France, Türkiye, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Mexico and the USA, in the packer's own brand or the buyer's private label; third-party brands come only from the brand owner or its authorised distributors, because parallel imports carry counterfeit, diversion and customs risks. Each lot carries the packer's certificate of analysis for Brix, fruit content, acidity and microbiology, the origin authority's health certificate, a certificate of origin and a halal certificate from a body the destination accepts. The halal review covers flavourings and their ethanol carriers against GSO 2538, and colours such as beta-carotene, which in water-dispersible forms can be stabilised with gelatine. EU-bound drinks use only additives on the Union list of Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 and follow the Directive's names and fruit content labelling; Gulf labels follow GSO 9 with Arabic text and production and expiry dates; and Saudi imports are registered with the SFDA by the importer. Cartons and trays move palletised in 20-ft or 40-ft dry containers on EXW, FCA, FOB, CFR and CIF terms, priced per carton; pallets per container and minimum runs are confirmed per product and pack. Bulk concentrates for packers are covered under juice concentrates. Send the fruit, grade, fruit content, pack, label and discharge port, and the enquiry is screened and worked against it.

Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.

Juice Drinks & Nectars (100% Juice, Nectars and Juice Drinks in Aseptic Cartons, PET and Cans) — buyer questions

What is the difference between juice, nectar and a juice drink?

Fruit juice is 100% juice. A nectar is juice or purée with added water and usually sugar, and in the EU Directive 2001/112/EC sets its minimum fruit content: 50% for fruits such as orange, apple, peach and pineapple, and 25% for mango, guava and banana. A juice drink has a lower juice share and is sold on its own declared content.

Which HS code applies to nectars and juice drinks?

Unfermented juice, with or without added sugar, stays in heading 2009 under the fruit's subheading. Juice diluted with water, such as nectars and juice drinks, is classified under 2202.99 in the EU Combined Nomenclature. The importer's broker confirms the national line before the proforma.

What does a halal review look for in juice drinks?

Flavourings and the ethanol used to carry them, checked against the ethanol limits in GSO 2538, and colours such as water-dispersible beta-carotene, which can be stabilised with gelatine of animal origin. The certificate comes from a body the destination accepts.

How are juice drinks shipped, and what is the minimum order?

Aseptic cartons, PET bottles and cans are shelf-stable and move palletised in 20-ft or 40-ft dry containers on EXW, FCA, FOB, CFR or CIF terms, priced per carton. Minimum runs, especially for private-label printed cartons, are confirmed with the packer per product and pack.
