IMPCA Grade AA Methanol (Purity ≥ 99.85%)
Global chemical reference specification | Bulk parcels & ISO tanks for formaldehyde & resins
Methanol (methyl alcohol, CH₃OH, HS 2905.11) is the global chemical industry's primary liquid workhorse, acting as the fundamental precursor for formaldehyde, acetic acid, methyl methacrylate (MMA), chloromethanes, and methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), while expanding rapidly as a clean-burning marine bunker fuel and biodiesel transesterification reagent. The international merchant market trades overwhelmingly against the International Methanol Producers and Consumers Association (IMPCA) Reference Specification and ASTM D1152 Grade AA. Under these specifications, chemical purity must satisfy a minimum 99.85% by weight on a dry basis, with water content strictly capped at ≤ 0.10 wt% (1,000 ppm), ethanol at ≤ 50 mg/kg, acetone at ≤ 30 mg/kg, and a potassium permanganate fade time of at least 50 minutes at 15°C—a critical diagnostic ensuring the absence of oxidizable organic impurities.
CBIL coordinates chemical tanker parcels, terminal tank-to-tank transfers, and containerized ISO-tank shipments from audited, world-scale methanol complexes in Saudi Arabia (Yanbu), Oman (Port of Salalah, Sohar), Malaysia (Labuan), the United States (US Gulf Coast / Beaumont, Geismar), and Trinidad & Tobago (Point Lisas). Shipments move aboard dedicated chemical parcel tankers featuring zinc-silicate or marine-line coated cargo tanks, with strict prior-cargo vetting and tank wall wash inspections (hydrocarbon and chloride tests) conducted prior to loading. Every lot is independently certified by SGS, Saybolt, or Intertek at the loading terminal flange, verifying full IMPCA specification compliance, non-volatile matter, and specific gravity (0.791–0.793 at 20°C). Deliveries are structured on FOB, CFR, CIF, and ex-tank commercial terms, with spot and indexed term pricing linked to regional benchmarks (ICIS, Platts, Methanex posted prices).

Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.

IMPCA Grade AA Methanol (Purity ≥ 99.85%) — buyer questions
What is the significance of the Permanganate Fade Test in IMPCA methanol?
The potassium permanganate time test (ASTM D1363) is the definitive quality gate for chemical-grade methanol. Permanganate oxidizes trace organic impurities (such as aldehydes, ketones, and dissolved reducing substances) that gas chromatography might miss at sub-ppm levels. A fade time of 50 minutes or greater at 15°C proves that the cargo is exceptionally clean and will not poison delicate silver or metal-oxide catalysts during formaldehyde synthesis.
Why are cargo tank coatings critical when chartering parcel tankers for methanol?
Methanol is an aggressive solvent capable of dissolving organic tank coatings like standard epoxies. Parcel tankers carrying methanol must be fitted with pure zinc-silicate coatings or stainless steel (SUS 316L) tanks. Furthermore, tanks must undergo rigorous wall-wash inspections to certify that residual chlorides are ≤ 0.5 ppm and non-volatile residues are absent before loading.
Where does CBIL load methanol, and how is it delivered?
We maintain dedicated offtake allocations from world-scale production assets located outside maritime chokepoints: Salalah and Sohar in the Sultanate of Oman, Point Lisas in Trinidad, and US Gulf Coast hubs in Beaumont and Geismar. These loading terminals offer unrestricted ocean access, eliminating war-risk surcharges and ensuring dependable delivery schedules into Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
