Semi-refined paraffin wax with 0.5-2% oil for candles, matches, packaging and industrial uses

Semi-refined paraffin wax sits between slack wax and fully refined wax: it has been de-oiled but carries more oil and a lower colour than the fully refined grade, and it is priced below it. Industry sheets put semi-refined oil content at about 0.5-1.5%, with some producers offering up to 2%, measured by ASTM D721, alongside melting point by ASTM D87, Saybolt colour by ASTM D156 and needle penetration by ASTM D1321. China's grades are made to GB/T 254-2010, which sets melting point, oil content, colour, light stability, penetration, viscosity, odour and freedom from water and mechanical impurities. The customs code follows the oil: wax with less than 0.75% oil is HS 2712.20, and a semi-refined lot above that line is declared under HS 2712.90 with other petroleum waxes, so the COA oil figure decides the tariff line. India's Numaligarh Refinery in Assam, the country's largest wax producer at about 50,000 MT a year of capacity, makes both fully and semi-refined grades. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 2712.90 total USD 1.76 billion across 83 reporters, led by the USA at USD 262 million, the Netherlands USD 165 million, Germany USD 143 million, China USD 132 million, Egypt USD 130 million, Poland USD 96 million, Canada USD 83 million, Italy USD 77 million and Thailand USD 69 million. That heading mixes semi-refined, slack and microcrystalline wax, and the figures are declared export values, not offers.

The buyer is a candle and match maker, a paper and board converter, a rubber or cable compounder or a wax blender and distributor, and the offer is a price per MT for a stated melting point, oil content, form and pack. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers semi-refined paraffin wax from refineries in China (Fushun and Daqing grades), India, Egypt, Thailand, Germany, Poland and the USA. The screening is the same as for any wax offer: the certificate of analysis names the refinery and lot, the certificate of origin matches the load port and the refinery's country, and the safety data sheet comes from the producer. A COA with no refinery, a load port in a different country from the origin or a price far below the refinery's own market is set aside. Slabs or pastilles in bags move palletised in 20-ft or 40-ft dry containers on FOB, CFR and CIF terms; minimum orders are confirmed per product and pack. Send the melting point, oil content, form, volume and discharge port, and the enquiry is screened and worked against it.

Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.
