Melamine 99.8% (Industrial Grade)

Urea-derived melamine powder at 99.8% purity for laminates, MF resins and moulding compounds

Melamine is a white crystalline powder made from urea and bought by resin makers who react it with formaldehyde into melamine-formaldehyde (MF) and melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) resins. Those resins impregnate the decor and overlay papers of high-pressure and low-pressure laminates, bind moisture-resistant particleboard and MDF, and are moulded into tableware and electrical parts; melamine also goes into coatings crosslinkers, concrete superplasticisers and flame retardants such as melamine cyanurate and polyphosphate. The trade grade is 99.8% minimum purity, and a typical technical sheet reads moisture 0.1% maximum (some sheets 0.15%), ash 0.03% maximum, colour 20 APHA maximum and pH 7.5-9.5 in solution. The heading is HS 2933.61, which covers melamine alone. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 2933.61 total USD 680 million and about 696,000 MT across 49 reporters: China USD 511 million and 578,000 MT, the Netherlands USD 61 million and 46,000 MT, Trinidad and Tobago USD 34 million and 27,000 MT, the USA USD 26 million and 22,000 MT, Japan USD 15 million, India USD 13 million and Spain USD 7 million. Those are declared export values, not offers.

The trade-defence position matters for landed cost. The EU has an anti-dumping measure on melamine originating in China, imposed as a minimum import price for cooperating exporters and a fixed duty per tonne for all others (Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/1776, amended by Regulation (EU) 2025/325 after a partial interim review), and India's Directorate General of Trade Remedies initiated an anti-dumping investigation into Chinese melamine on 29 September 2025 on the application of the country's sole producer. Buyers in the Middle East, Africa, South and Southeast Asia and Latin America therefore price Chinese, Trinidadian, Dutch and American material against their own duty schedule. Melamine is not classified as dangerous goods for sea transport, and it moves in 25 kg polyethylene-lined bags on pallets or in 500 kg and 1,000 kg big bags in 20-ft containers. Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.
