US Deepwater Ferrous Scrap Gateway

850,000+ tonnes monthly of heavy melting steel and shredded scrap to ISRI specifications for global EAF melters

United States deepwater scrap export terminals represent the global benchmark for recycled secondary metallurgy. Processing millions of tonnes of end-of-life automotive and structural steel through industrial mega-shredders and heavy shear balers, U.S. processors supply the high-yield scrap essential for electric arc furnace (EAF) and induction steelmaking worldwide. Official U.S. Census Bureau customs manifests recorded 847,347 metric tonnes exported by vessel in July 2026 at an average declared FOB value of USD 516.35 per tonne, led by massive outflows to Turkey (295,358 tonnes through Aliaga and Iskenderun mills), Mexico (104,090 tonnes), Taiwan (84,017 tonnes), Bangladesh (78,247 tonnes into Chittagong) and Vietnam (73,888 tonnes).

CBIL brokers standard ISRI-classified ferrous scrap directly from established deepwater recycling yards on the Atlantic, Gulf and Pacific coasts. Shipments are strictly inspected for chemical purity, yield (≥88–92%), density, and radiation clearance, with load-port certification issued by SGS, Bureau Veritas or Tubacex. We arrange bulk Handysize cargoes (25,000–40,000 MT) as well as heavy containerized parcels (500–2,000 MT in 20ft heavy-duty boxes) on FOB port and CFR destination terms, tailored to mill scrap intake and documentary L/C banking requirements.

Questions buyers ask

What is the physical difference between HMS 1/2 (80:20) and Shredded 211?
Heavy Melting Steel (HMS 1/2 80:20) consists of shear-cut industrial and structural steel (minimum 1/4 inch thickness for HMS 1, 1/8 inch for HMS 2) in pieces under 5x2 feet. Shredded Scrap (ISRI 211) is magnetically separated automotive and consumer scrap pulverized into fist-sized pieces, offering higher bulk density (≥1.1 t/m³) and faster EAF melting cycles.
How does CBIL guarantee scrap against radiation and hazardous contamination?
Every parcel loading under CBIL brokerage passes through drive-through portal radiation monitors at the terminal gate and undergo grab-by-grab handheld gamma spectroscopy during vessel hold loading. Load-port certificates confirm zero detectable radioactivity above natural background and zero sealed gas cylinders.
What delivery formats are supported for scrap?
Both bulk ocean vessels (Handysize 25,000–40,000 MT parcels for large mills in Turkey, Vietnam, and Egypt) and containerized shipments (20-foot heavy-duty containers loaded to 25–28 MT each for buyers in Pakistan, India, and Southeast Asia).
How is payment structured for international scrap buyers?
Transactions are executed via 100% Irrevocable Documentary Letter of Credit (L/C) at sight (UCP 600) issued by a prime international bank against ocean Bill of Lading, Certificate of Origin, and SGS inspection certificate.
