IS 73 viscosity-graded binder for Indian & Asian road tenders

Viscosity-grade bitumen is classified by absolute viscosity at 60°C rather than by needle penetration, and that single difference is why it exists: 60°C approximates real pavement service temperature, so the grade measures the binder where the road actually works. CBIL brokers VG-10 (800–1,200 poise), VG-30 (2,400–3,600 poise) and VG-40 (3,200–4,800 poise) to IS 73:2013, with kinematic viscosity at 135°C ≥ 350 cSt for VG-30, softening point ≥ 47°C, penetration at 25°C typically 50–70 dmm for VG-30 and flash point ≥ 220°C. Every lot ships against SGS or Intertek certification of absolute and kinematic viscosity, penetration, softening point and thin-film-oven residue.

VG-30 is the volume grade — the binder Indian and South Asian highway tenders name for dense bituminous macadam and bituminous concrete on national and state highways, and the reason most buyers land on this page. Choose VG-10 instead for spray applications, surface dressing and bitumen emulsion feedstock, where the lower viscosity is the point; step up to VG-40 only for heavily trafficked corridors, toll plazas and intersections where standing and braking loads make rutting the dominant failure mode. Against a penetration grade, VG-30 and 60/70 overlap in penetration but are not the same contractual product — if your tender cites IS 73, penetration-grade certification will not clear it. Supply is arranged from UAE, Bahrain, Iran and Singapore loading points on FOB, CFR and CIF terms, in new steel drums (150/180 kg), 300 kg jumbo bags, bitutainers or hot-bulk vessel.
