Copper strip and sheet is bought on the copper, the temper, the gauge and what the mill certificate proves. HS 7409 covers copper plates, sheets and strip more than 0.15 mm thick; of refined copper they are HS 7409.11 in coils and HS 7409.19 in flat lengths, while brass, bronze, cupro-nickel and other alloy strip sit under 7409.21 to 7409.90 and are not this page, and copper 0.15 mm or thinner is foil under HS 7410. Two coppers carry most of the electrical trade. C11000, electrolytic tough pitch (ETP), is at least 99.9% copper with typically 0.02–0.04% oxygen and a minimum conductivity of 100% IACS. C10200, oxygen-free (OF), holds 99.95% copper, about 0.001% oxygen and a minimum 100% IACS, and is specified where the part will meet hot hydrogen, as in hydrogen-atmosphere brazing or annealing, because copper that carries oxygen can be embrittled by hot hydrogen. ASTM B152/B152M, current in its 2024 edition, covers copper sheet, strip, plate and rolled bar in coppers from C10100 to C14530, including C10200, C11000 and C12200, with tensile and hardness requirements. In Europe, EN 1652 covers plate, sheet, strip and circles for general purposes, and EN 13599 covers copper plate, sheet and strip for electrical purposes from 0.05 mm to 25 mm thick and 10 mm to 1,250 mm wide, with electrical property requirements. Temper is designated under ASTM B601, which codes each temper by the process that produced it, and the order states it alongside thickness, width, flatness and edge. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 7409.11 total USD 4.04 billion and 343,900 MT across 65 reporters: Germany USD 1.00 billion and 88,900 MT, China USD 673 million and 63,900 MT, Japan USD 438 million and 37,500 MT, Bulgaria USD 342 million, Finland USD 321 million, Korea USD 245 million and 21,200 MT, the USA USD 196 million, Italy USD 172 million and France USD 129 million, with India at USD 25 million. HS 7409.19 adds USD 1.28 billion, led by Peru at USD 207 million, Thailand USD 155 million, China USD 149 million, Japan USD 148 million and Finland USD 132 million. Those are declared export values, not offers.

The core buyers are electrical. A busbar is a metallic strip or bar housed inside switchgear, panel boards and busway enclosures, and larger power transformers may be wound with copper rectangular strip conductors insulated by oil-impregnated paper; heavy busbar bar to EN 13601, copper rod, bar and wire for general electrical purposes, is a bar product under HS 7407 rather than strip. Around them sit electrical-component makers, fabricators and the distributors that slit and cut strip for smaller shops, in the Gulf, South and Southeast Asia, Africa and Europe. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers copper strip and sheet from rolling mills and mill-affiliated traders in Germany, China, Japan, Korea, Finland, Bulgaria, Italy and India, against the mill's inspection document under EN 10204 reporting chemistry, temper, mechanical properties and, for electrical strip, conductivity, with a certificate of origin. Where the strip goes into electrical or electronic equipment for the EU, the equipment maker works under the RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU, which restricts ten substances including lead, cadmium and mercury, and asks for the mill's RoHS declaration, and EU importers ask for a REACH statement under Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006. Price is built in two parts: the copper, against the LME copper price over an agreed period, and the mill's fabrication charge for copper grade, temper, gauge, width and finish, so offers from different mills are compared on the charge. For the USA, the Section 232 tariff has applied since 6 April 2026 at 50% to the full customs value of most goods in HS chapter 74, and the importer's customs broker confirms whether and at what rate it reaches the strip before contracting. Coils and flat lengths are packed on wooden pallets or in wooden cases and shipped in 20-ft containers on FOB, CFR and CIF terms; minimum lots are confirmed per product and pack. Send the copper grade, standard, temper, thickness, width, coil or flat length, conductivity requirement, monthly tonnage and discharge port, and the enquiry is screened and worked against it.

Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.

What is the difference between C11000 ETP and C10200 oxygen-free copper strip?

C11000 electrolytic tough pitch copper is at least 99.9% copper with typically 0.02–0.04% oxygen and a minimum conductivity of 100% IACS; it is the general electrical grade. C10200 oxygen-free copper holds 99.95% copper and about 0.001% oxygen, also at a minimum 100% IACS. The oxygen is what matters in fabrication: copper that carries oxygen can be embrittled when exposed to hot hydrogen, so parts that will meet hot hydrogen, as in hydrogen-atmosphere brazing or annealing, are specified in oxygen-free copper.

Which HS code applies to copper strip and sheet?

Copper plates, sheets and strip more than 0.15 mm thick are HS 7409. Of refined copper they are 7409.11 in coils and 7409.19 otherwise; brass, bronze, cupro-nickel and other alloys have their own subheadings from 7409.21 to 7409.90. Copper 0.15 mm or thinner, excluding any backing, is foil under HS 7410, and copper bars, rods and profiles are HS 7407. The national tariff line under the six digits is confirmed by the importer's broker.

Which standards should a copper strip order name?

ASTM B152/B152M for copper sheet, strip, plate and rolled bar, or in Europe EN 1652 for general purposes and EN 13599 for electrical purposes, which covers thicknesses from 0.05 mm to 25 mm and widths from 10 mm to 1,250 mm with electrical property requirements.
