ABS Resin (General Purpose, High Impact & Extrusion)
Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene pellets by melt flow and notched Izod impact
ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene, HS 3903.30) is the engineering styrenic behind appliance housings, automotive interior trim, luggage shells, toys, and sheet and pipe, and it is bought on two numbers: melt flow and impact. Producers measure melt flow at 220 °C under a 10 kg load, and published datasheets show the spread: extrusion grades sit around 5–6 per 10 minutes at 220 °C/10 kg with notched Izod impact near 19–20 kJ/m², while high-impact grades reach about 400 J/m notched Izod at room temperature. General-purpose injection grades flow faster for thin-wall mouldings and give up some impact; high-impact grades carry more butadiene rubber; extrusion grades are low-flow for sheet, profile and pipe. Every producer names its own grades, so a buyer states the melt flow, the notched Izod, the colour (natural or pre-coloured), any flame-retardant or heat-resistant requirement and whether the material is prime or off-grade.
UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 3903.30 put Korea at 1.10 million MT (USD 1,968 million), Taiwan at 0.68 million MT (USD 1,080 million), Malaysia at 0.38 million MT (USD 407 million), China at 0.22 million MT (USD 377 million), and the Netherlands and the USA at 0.15 million MT each. The buyer is an injection moulder, a sheet or pipe extruder, a compounder or a distributor. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers ABS from producer offtake traders and trader parcels against the producer's certificate of analysis and SGS or Intertek inspection at stuffing where the buyer wants it, in 25 kg bags on pallets or jumbo bags in 40-ft containers on FOB, CFR and CIF terms, with container freight quoted through forwarders. Prices are negotiated per grade and origin against the ICIS and Platts styrenics assessments the market reads. Send the grade you run, the melt flow and Izod band, the colour and the monthly volume, and the enquiry is screened and worked against it.

Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.

ABS Resin (General Purpose, High Impact & Extrusion) — buyer questions
Which numbers decide an ABS grade?
Melt flow at 220 °C/10 kg and notched Izod impact. Low-flow grades suit sheet, profile and pipe extrusion; higher-flow grades fill thin-wall injection moulds; high-impact grades carry more rubber. Add colour, heat resistance and any flame-retardant rating, and the grade is defined.
How do I match a grade from a different producer?
Start from the datasheet you run and match melt flow, notched Izod, Vicat softening and any UL flame rating, then trial a container before a programme. We ask for the current grade name, your process and the property that matters most on your line.
What documents come with a parcel?
The producer's certificate of analysis for the lot, the grade datasheet, the safety data sheet, commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin, plus SGS or Intertek inspection at stuffing where the buyer asks for it.
What parcel sizes and terms do you work?
The unit is the 40-ft container in 25 kg bags on pallets or jumbo bags, from one container of one grade to monthly programmes, on FOB, CFR and CIF terms. Anti-dumping duty at destination depends on the importing country and origin; it is checked for each route before an origin is fixed.
