Punjab long grain, Sella-led for Africa & the Gulf

PR-11 and PR-14 are Punjab non-basmati long grains that the trade quotes almost interchangeably, and they are treated as one line here for that reason — mills allocate between them week to week and the practical difference to a buyer is negligible. Average milled length runs 6.5–7.0 mm, placing them above IR64 and IRRI-6 and below PK-386, non-aromatic, contracted at 5% and 10% broken with moisture ≤ 14%, chalky grains ≤ 5%, damaged and discoloured ≤ 2% and purity ≥ 95%. The overwhelming majority of the crop moves parboiled as Golden or White Sella rather than raw white, because the grain takes parboiling well with good head-rice yield and because the destination markets expect Sella.

Buy the PR varieties where a programme needs more grain length than IR64 delivers, at a price well below anything in the basmati family, in parboiled form — West and East African retail and institutional supply, Gulf catering and camp feeding, and private-label Sella lines competing on shelf price. Their commercial position is genuinely useful: a 6.5–7.0 mm Sella looks materially better in a pack than a 6.2 mm IR64 Sella and costs a fraction of 1509. Where they are the wrong buy is any programme selling on aroma, which they do not have, or one where the absolute cheapest tonne wins, where IRRI-6 at 25% broken will beat them every time. As with all Punjab rice, crop year and ageing are worth declaring — Sella masks a lot, but not everything. Supply is arranged in 25 kg and 50 kg PP bags, container-load, with SGS grading, fumigation and phytosanitary certification, on FOB, CFR and CIF terms.
