Centrifuged 60% DRC latex, high-ammonia and low-ammonia TZ, to ISO 2004 in ISO tanks, flexibags or drums
Latex concentrate is field latex spun in a centrifuge to about 60% rubber and preserved with ammonia, and it is bought on how it will behave in the dipping tank as much as on how much rubber it holds. ISO 2004 sets the frame, and producer sheets quoting it give the limits: dry rubber content (DRC) at least 60.0% and total solids content (TSC) at least 61.0% (61.5% on many contracts), so non-rubber solids, the gap between them, stay at or below about 2.0%. Alkalinity as ammonia on the latex is at least 0.60% for the high-ammonia (HA) type and at most 0.29% for low-ammonia types, where LA-TZ adds a small dose of tetramethylthiuram disulphide and zinc oxide as secondary preservative. Mechanical stability time (MST) must be at least 650 seconds; the volatile fatty acid (VFA) number, which rises as the latex starts to putrefy, and the KOH number are agreed between the parties within the standard's ceilings, with glove makers commonly writing a VFA number of 0.06 or lower. Copper and manganese are held at 8 mg/kg or lower each, because both catalyse oxidation of the finished film, and sludge at 0.10% or lower. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 4001.10 put Thailand at 678,600 MT at an average USD 1,389/MT (the tonne here is wet latex, not dry rubber), Guatemala at 56,500 MT at USD 1,513 and Malaysia at 16,400 MT, with Côte d'Ivoire declaring USD 105 million without a weight; Thailand alone is about three quarters of the declared value.
The buyer is a glove plant (examination and household gloves), a condom and balloon maker, a catheter and medical dipping plant, a latex foam mattress and pillow factory, an elastic thread mill, or a carpet-backing and adhesive compounder, and each writes its own limits for MST, VFA and ammonia around its process. Latex is a liquid that keeps for months, not years, so the contract names the production date and the maximum age at arrival as well as the grade. It moves in 20-ft ISO tank containers or single-use flexibags for volume buyers and in lined 205 kg steel drums for smaller plants, and ammonia content means tanks are cleaned and vented to the carrier's rules. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers latex concentrate from centrifuging plants and exporters in the producing countries on FOB, CFR and CIF terms, against a certificate of analysis per lot to ISO 2004 test methods, a certificate of origin and, where the destination asks for it, a phytosanitary certificate. Natural rubber latex is a relevant commodity under the EU Deforestation Regulation, so EU-bound lots need plot geolocation and due-diligence data from the seller before contract. Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.

Should I buy HA or LA-TZ latex?
High-ammonia (HA) latex, at 0.60% ammonia or more, is the more robust preservation and keeps longer in transit and storage, which suits long voyages and dipping plants that de-ammoniate on arrival. Low-ammonia TZ latex, at 0.29% ammonia or less with TMTD and zinc oxide as secondary preservative, gives less ammonia smell and handling burden in the plant and is widely used for gloves and foam. Some end uses, including certain medical products, restrict TMTD, so check your product standard before choosing.
Is the price per tonne of latex or per tonne of dry rubber?
Both conventions are used, so the contract must say which. Customs and trade statistics count wet latex, and a tonne of 60% DRC latex holds about 600 kg of rubber. Many producer quotations are per tonne of latex with a DRC adjustment clause, settled on the certificate of analysis or an agreed independent test; compare offers on the same basis.
Which tests matter most for a glove plant?
Mechanical stability time (at least 650 seconds under ISO 2004), volatile fatty acid number (a freshness indicator, commonly written at 0.06 or lower), KOH number, ammonia content and total solids. Copper and manganese are held at 8 mg/kg or lower because they accelerate ageing of the finished film. Plants also watch viscosity and magnesium, which affect compounding stability, and write a maximum age at arrival.
How is latex concentrate shipped?
Volume buyers take 20-ft ISO tank containers or single-use flexibags inside a 20-ft container; smaller plants take lined 205 kg steel drums. Tanks are cleaned and vented for ammonia, and the latex should not freeze or sit in high heat for long. Container freight is quoted through forwarders on CFR and CIF enquiries.
