Bisphenol-A liquid epoxy resin at EEW 184-190, solid and 75% solution grades, and the amine, polyamide, anhydride and dicyandiamide hardeners that cure them

Standard liquid epoxy resin is the reaction product of bisphenol A and epichlorohydrin (DGEBA), and the trade buys it on four numbers from the producer's data sheet. Olin's D.E.R. 331 is specified at an epoxide equivalent weight of 182-192 g/eq (ASTM D1652), viscosity 11,000-14,000 mPa.s at 25 °C, colour 75 Pt-Co maximum, hydrolysable chloride 500 ppm maximum, water 700 ppm maximum and density 1.16 g/ml, with a shelf life of 24 months. Nan Ya's NPEL-128 sits at EEW 184-190 g/eq, viscosity 12,000-15,000 cps, Gardner colour 1.0 maximum and density 1.16; Kukdo's YD-128 is published at EEW 184-190 g/eq and 11,500-13,500 cps. Solid type 1 resin such as Nan Ya NPES-901 runs EEW 450-500 g/eq with a softening point of 64-74 °C and is sold as flake; the same resin at 75% non-volatiles in xylene (NPES-901X75, Kukdo YD-011X75) is the solution grade for anticorrosive paint. Hardeners are a section of the same order: aliphatic amines (triethylenetetramine), cycloaliphatic amines (isophorone diamine), polyaminoamides for ambient-cure two-pack systems (Evonik's Ancamide 350A is used at 55 phr with an EEW 190 resin), anhydrides such as methyl tetrahydrophthalic anhydride for high-temperature composites and electrical casting, and micronised dicyandiamide as the latent hardener of powder coatings, curing at 180-185 °C. The substance (CAS 25068-38-6, EC 500-033-5) carries a harmonised classification as a skin sensitiser and aquatic chronic 2, and liquid resin is commonly declared UN 3082, class 9, packing group III as an environmentally hazardous liquid; the product SDS governs.

UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 3907.30 total about USD 6.26 billion and 1.53 million MT across 104 reporters: Germany USD 920 million and 192,000 MT, the USA USD 818 million, Korea USD 816 million and 310,000 MT, Taiwan USD 528 million and 180,000 MT, China USD 518 million and 262,000 MT, Japan USD 504 million, Switzerland USD 287 million, the Netherlands USD 235 million, Singapore USD 197 million, Thailand USD 192 million and 64,000 MT, Italy USD 174 million and the Czech Republic USD 133 million. Trade remedies shape the routes. The USA imposed anti-dumping orders on 27 May 2025 on epoxy resins from Korea (Kukdo 5.68%, Kumho P&B 7.60%, all others 6.37%), Taiwan (Chang Chun 10.93%, Nan Ya 28.13%, all others 19.21%) and Thailand (Aditya Birla 5.25%), with countervailing duties on Korea and Taiwan, while the ITC found imports from China and India negligible and no US orders exist on those two. The EU imposed definitive anti-dumping duties in July 2025 (Regulation (EU) 2025/1505) on epoxy resins from China (17.3-33%), Taiwan (10.8-11%) and Thailand (29.9%). India imposed anti-dumping duty on liquid epoxy resins from China, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan and Thailand in November 2025 for five years. Producers include Kukdo and Kumho P&B in Korea, Nan Ya and Chang Chun in Taiwan, Jiangsu Sanmu and Sinopec Baling in China, Aditya Birla Chemicals at Map Ta Phut in Thailand (110,000 t/yr, about 70% exported), Spolchemie in the Czech Republic and Leuna-Harze in Germany; Olin stopped integrated epoxy production at Stade in 2023 and Westlake Epoxy announced the closure of Pernis in June 2025. The buyer is a protective, marine or can-coating formulator, a wind-blade or composite moulder, a copper-clad laminate maker, an adhesive or flooring system house, or a fusion-bonded-epoxy pipe-coating powder maker.
