Tomato Ketchup (Retail Bottles, Foodservice Packs, Sachets)
Ketchup bought on total solids, Bostwick consistency and pack, from the sachet to the 5 kg jug
Tomato ketchup and other tomato sauces are HS 2103.20. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 2103.20 total USD 2.80 billion and about 1.64 million MT across 118 reporters: Italy USD 459 million, the Netherlands USD 435 million and 272,000 MT, the USA USD 433 million and 382,000 MT, Spain USD 202 million, Germany USD 148 million, Poland USD 122 million, Belgium USD 109 million, Portugal USD 68 million, Egypt USD 63 million and Türkiye USD 43 million. The heading takes in pasta sauces as well as ketchup, so a country's total is not all ketchup.
Ketchup is made by diluting tomato paste with water, sugar, vinegar, salt and spices, and manufacturers commonly formulate to 16 to 19 °Brix. The buyer's spec turns on solids and flow. The USDA grade standard for tomato ketchup sets Grade A at not less than 33% total solids with good consistency, and consistency is measured on a Bostwick consistometer, with ketchup flowing not less than 3.0 cm and not more than 7.0 cm in 30 seconds at 20 °C. A foodservice buyer wants a thicker flow for dispensers, a sachet line a pumpable one. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers generic ketchup from factories in Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Poland, Belgium, Türkiye, Egypt and the USA against the competent-authority health certificate, the factory's certificate of analysis with solids, Brix and Bostwick for the lot, a certificate of origin and, where the market needs it, a halal certificate. Ketchup is shelf-stable before opening and ships in dry containers. EU labels follow Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, US labels follow FDA rules, and Gulf labels follow GSO 9 in Arabic with production and expiry dates on the original label. Minimum orders are confirmed per product and pack. Cartons ship palletised or floor-loaded in 20-ft or 40-ft dry containers on FOB, CFR and CIF terms. Send the pack, solids or Brix, label market, carton count and discharge port, and the enquiry is screened and worked against it.
Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.

Tomato Ketchup (Retail Bottles, Foodservice Packs, Sachets) — buyer questions
How is ketchup thickness specified?
By Bostwick consistometer: the distance the ketchup flows in 30 seconds at 20 °C. Ketchup is typically in the 3.0 to 7.0 cm range, and the buyer's spec sets the target for its dispensers or sachet line.
What does Grade A ketchup mean?
Under the USDA grade standard, Grade A ketchup has not less than 33% total solids, good colour, consistency, flavour and finish, and scores at least 85 points.
Does ketchup need a reefer?
No. Ketchup is shelf-stable before opening and ships in dry containers.
What documents come with a container of ketchup?
A health certificate from the origin's competent authority, the factory's certificate of analysis with solids, Brix and Bostwick, a certificate of origin, invoice and packing list, and a halal certificate where the market requires it.
