Aluminium Sheet & Coil (1050, 1100, 3003, 3105, 5052, 5083, 6061)

Rolled aluminium sheet and coil over 0.2 mm by alloy, temper, gauge and finish to EN 485 and ASTM B209

Aluminium sheet and coil is bought on alloy, temper, gauge and surface, and the mill test certificate is where each of those is proved. The alloy sets what the metal can do: 1050, 1060 and 1100 are commercially pure grades with high formability and conductivity for reflectors, insulation jacketing, signage and general fabrication; 3003 and 3105 add manganese for strength while staying formable, and are the roofing, cladding, gutter, HVAC and colour-coating substrate alloys; 5052 and 5083 are the magnesium alloys for marine plate, tanker and tipper bodies, fuel tanks and pressure work where corrosion resistance and weldable strength matter; 6061 is the heat-treatable structural alloy supplied T6 or T651 for machined and structural parts. Chemistry follows EN 573-3 or the Aluminum Association registration used by ASTM B209. Temper is designated to EN 515: O is fully annealed for deep forming, H14 is strain-hardened half-hard, H24 is strain-hardened and partially annealed to the same strength with better bendability, and H32 is the stabilised half-hard temper of the 5xxx alloys. Minimum tensile strength, yield strength and elongation for each alloy, temper and thickness are the values tabulated in EN 485-2 or ASTM B209, and the certificate should report the tested values against them. Thickness, width, length and flatness tolerances follow EN 485-4 for cold-rolled product or the ASTM B209 tables, and a roll-former or laser-cutting line writes its own flatness limit into the contract. Surface is mill finish, stucco-embossed or diamond-pattern, or colour-coated with polyester or PVDF on a 3003 or 3105 substrate. Coils are wound on an inner diameter the buyer's decoiler takes, commonly 505 or 508 mm, with a maximum coil weight stated in the order. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 7606 (plates, sheets and strip over 0.2 mm) put the reporter total at USD 34.5 billion and 8.35 million MT, led by China at 3.42 million MT (USD 10.4 billion, about USD 3,041/MT declared), Germany at 1.34 million MT (about USD 4,075/MT), Korea at 0.74 million MT (about USD 3,449/MT), Italy at 0.34 million MT (about USD 4,042/MT), Türkiye at 0.30 million MT (about USD 3,379/MT), Austria at 0.22 million MT (about USD 5,182/MT) and Oman at 0.10 million MT (about USD 3,096/MT); the spread is mostly product mix, with aerospace, can-body and automotive sheet lifting the European averages.

The buyers are roofing, cladding and composite-panel fabricators, gutter and insulation-jacketing makers, truck-body, trailer, tanker and marine builders, HVAC and heat-exchanger plants, signage and lighting makers, and the metal distributors and service centres that stock sheet and slit coil for all of them. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers aluminium sheet and coil from rolling mills and mill-affiliated traders in Asia, Europe, Türkiye and Oman to those buyers against a mill test certificate to the named standard that reports chemistry, temper, mechanical properties and gauge, and states the country where the primary aluminium was smelted and the country where it was cast, with no metal of excluded origin in the chain; the EU, the UK and the US each check smelt-and-cast origin on aluminium imports. Rolled aluminium falls under the EU carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM), so an EU importer needs the mill's embedded-emissions data alongside the certificate. Anti-dumping and countervailing duties apply to aluminium sheet from certain origins in several destinations, and checking the rate for the specific mill and origin at the port of discharge is the buyer's check before contracting. Sheet is packed interleaved with paper or film, coils wrapped in VCI or plastic film with edge protectors, and shipped in fumigated or heat-treated wooden cases or eye-to-sky on wooden pallets in 20-ft containers, on FOB, CFR and CIF terms. Send the alloy and temper, standard, gauge-by-width list, sheet or coil, surface finish, coil inner diameter and weight limit, monthly tonnage and discharge port.

Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.

Aluminium Sheet & Coil (1050, 1100, 3003, 3105, 5052, 5083, 6061) — buyer questions

H14 or H24 — which temper should I order?

Both are specified to similar strength, but they get there differently. H14 is strain-hardened to half-hard only; H24 is strain-hardened further and then partially annealed back, which usually gives better elongation and a tighter bend without cracking. For roofing, gutters and parts that are bent or roll-formed, H24 is the safer order; for flat panels and blanks that are not bent, H14 is common. Check the EN 485-2 or ASTM B209 minimums for your thickness and ask for tested values on the certificate.

Why do declared export prices differ so much between origins?

UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 7606 give China about USD 3,041/MT, Korea about USD 3,449, Germany about USD 4,075 and Austria about USD 5,182. The heading covers everything from commodity 1xxx and 3xxx coil to aerospace plate, can-body stock and automotive sheet, and European mills export more of the high-value end. Compare offers on the same alloy, temper, gauge and finish, then add freight and any duty at your port.

What must the mill test certificate show?

The standard, alloy and temper, cast or lot number, chemistry against EN 573-3 or the registered limits, tensile, yield and elongation test results, and measured thickness and width. It should also state the country where the primary aluminium was smelted and where it was cast: the EU, UK and US check this on import, and EU importers additionally need the producer's CBAM embedded-emissions data.

How is aluminium sheet and coil priced?

Usually as the LME aluminium price, often an averaging period, plus a regional premium and a rolling (conversion) premium that depends on alloy, temper, gauge, width and finish; some mills quote a flat all-in price instead. Thin gauges, 5xxx alloys, tight flatness and colour coating carry higher conversion premiums than mill-finish 1xxx or 3xxx coil. Fix the LME basis and the premium separately so offers from different mills can be compared.
