Secondary aluminium alloy ingot is remelted scrap brought back to a cast-alloy chemistry, and it is bought on the analysis rather than on the word aluminium. ADC12 to JIS H 2118 (9.6–12.0% Si, 1.5–3.5% Cu, Fe ≤ 0.9%, Zn ≤ 1.0%, Mg ≤ 0.3%, Mn ≤ 0.5%) is the high-pressure die-casting alloy of Asia; LM24 to BS 1490 and A380 to ASTM B179 carry 7.5–9.5% Si, 3.0–4.0% Cu and up to 3.0% Zn and are its European and American counterparts; LM6 and A413 (10–13% Si, Cu ≤ 0.1%) are the eutectic alloys for thin-walled, pressure-tight and corrosion-exposed castings; LM25 and A356 (6.5–7.5% Si with 0.2–0.6% Mg) are the heat-treatable gravity and low-pressure alloys for wheels and structural parts. Copper, zinc and iron arrive with the scrap, which is why the high-copper die-casting grades are the natural home for secondary metal: a remelter building ADC12 from mixed scrap, turnings and silicon metal can hold copper and zinc inside the band cheaply. Iron is the element a reverberatory furnace cannot take back out, so LM6 needs clean low-copper scrap, and A356.2 with Fe ≤ 0.12% is made largely from primary metal or segregated wheel scrap and priced accordingly. A country without a primary smelter, Pakistan among them, sells secondary ingot only, and the remelter's scrap mix sets the iron it can guarantee. Price is set off the LME aluminium reference or a regional ADC12 assessment, at a discount for high-copper secondary grades and a premium for low-iron primary-based alloys. On the trade, UN Comtrade 2025 import declarations under HS 7601.20 (all unwrought aluminium alloy, primary and secondary together) show India taking 321,469 MT from 55 partners: Malaysia 111,595 MT at an average USD 2,769/MT CIF, the UAE 54,495 MT at USD 2,870, Qatar 51,855 MT at USD 2,842 and Bahrain 41,398 MT at USD 2,798, with Korea, Australia, Indonesia and Thailand further down. The Gulf lines are largely primary smelter foundry alloy and billet rather than remelted ingot [inference]; UAE export declarations under the same code are not available, as the UAE does not report its exports to Comtrade.

The buyer is a die-caster — automotive housings and brackets, ceiling- and pedestal-fan and electric-motor housings, lighting, cookware and hardware — in the Gulf, India, Southeast Asia, East Africa and Turkiye, buying every month against a chemistry sheet and, for high-pressure machines, a sludge-factor limit (Fe + 2×Mn + 3×Cr) matched to its holding-furnace temperature. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers ADC12, LM6/A413, LM24/A380, LM25 and A356 ingot from remelter, producer and trader parcels in Pakistan, the UAE, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Turkiye and South Africa against third-party chemical analysis: a spectrometer certificate per heat, with independent sampling of the loaded bundles by SGS, Bureau Veritas or Intertek where the buyer asks for it. Ingot moves in containers, not bulk — notched 6–10 kg ingots strapped in bundles of about 1 MT on pallets or skids, 24–25 MT to a 20-foot box — on FOB, CFR and CIF terms, so freight is container freight booked with the line rather than a charter. Do you handle remelted metal whatever the origin of the feed?

No. Metal of excluded origin is not offered, and that includes material remelted or re-cast from primary metal or scrap of excluded origin. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin and a heat or mill certificate, and the seller declares where the scrap or primary metal came from before a price is discussed.

Is ADC12 from a secondary remelter the same alloy as primary-based ADC12?

It is the same standard — JIS H 2118 sets the ranges, not the source of the metal — and most ADC12 traded in Asia is secondary. What differs is consistency from heat to heat and the trace elements the standard allows but your castings may not like: iron near the 0.9% ceiling, zinc, lead, tin and nickel. Specify your own ceilings on those, ask for the spectrometer certificate per heat with the heat number marked on each bundle, and run a single-container trial before a monthly volume.

How is aluminium alloy ingot priced?

Off the LME aluminium reference (cash or three-month) or a regional ADC12 assessment published by a price reporting agency, as a fixed price or as a discount or premium to an agreed averaging period. High-copper secondary grades usually sit at a discount to LME aluminium because their scrap input is cheaper than primary metal; low-iron alloys such as A356.2 sit at a premium. For a reference point, UN Comtrade 2025 import declarations put India's average CIF price for HS 7601.20 at USD 2,769/MT from Malaysia and USD 2,870/MT from the UAE, primary and secondary alloy together.

Why is A356 rarely offered as secondary ingot?

Because A356.2 ingot allows only 0.12% iron, and iron cannot be refined out of aluminium in a remelting furnace — every tonne of mixed scrap adds some. A356 is the wheel and structural alloy, where iron forms brittle plate-like phases that cut elongation, so the ceiling is enforced. It is made from primary metal or tightly segregated wheel scrap. LM25 is the closer secondary equivalent at Fe ≤ 0.5%, and ADC12 or LM24 are the grades where secondary metal is at home.

What paperwork and inspection come with each container?

A spectrometer (optical emission) certificate per heat with the heat number stamped or tagged on the bundles, a packing and weight list per bundle, a certificate of origin, and on request a radiation-free certificate and independent sampling and analysis by SGS, Bureau Veritas or Intertek at stuffing. A 20-foot container carries 24–25 MT; the load-port certificate governs unless discharge re-analysis is written into the contract.
