Canned Mushrooms (Whole, Sliced and Pieces & Stems in Brine)

Agaricus mushrooms whole, sliced or pieces and stems, in 400 g, 2.5 kg and A10 cans

Canned mushrooms are almost all cultivated button mushrooms of the genus Agaricus, blanched, packed in brine and retorted, and they are sold in three styles priced far apart: whole, sliced, and pieces and stems. Buyers specify the style, cap size for whole mushrooms, colour, the net and drained weight, and salt and any acidity regulator in the brine. Codex CXS 297-2009, the standard for certain canned vegetables, carries canned mushrooms as an annex, a revision of the former CXS 55-1981. The retail cans are the 400 g and 425 ml sizes, and pizza chains, caterers and sauce makers buy the 2.5 kg and A10 can of pieces and stems or slices. Mushrooms are a low-acid food, retorted to commercial sterility, with the best-before date set by the cannery. HS 2003.10 covers mushrooms of the genus Agaricus prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 2003.10 total USD 843 million and about 431,700 MT across 76 reporters: China USD 392 million and 173,700 MT, the Netherlands USD 235 million and 172,400 MT, Poland USD 112 million and 46,100 MT, Spain USD 41 million and 19,300 MT, Italy USD 16 million, France USD 12 million and Indonesia USD 8 million. China and the Netherlands together declare more than 70% of the value. Those are declared export values, not offers.

The buyer is an importer-distributor, a pizza or sandwich chain, a foodservice wholesaler, a sauce and ready-meal maker or a supermarket private-label desk in the Gulf, Europe, Africa or Asia, and the offer is a price per carton for a stated style, can and drained weight. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers canned mushrooms from canneries in China, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and France, in the cannery's brand or the buyer's private label, against the origin authority's health certificate, the cannery's certificate of analysis for drained weight, vacuum and seam checks, a certificate of origin and a halal certificate from a body the destination accepts. EU-bound cans are tested against Regulation (EU) 2023/915, which caps inorganic tin at 200 mg/kg in canned food other than beverages and lead at 0.30 mg/kg in cultivated fungi such as the common mushroom; Gulf labels follow GSO 9 with Arabic text and production and expiry dates; and US-bound cans need the cannery's food canning establishment registration and a scheduled process filed with the FDA under 21 CFR 108, with processing to 21 CFR 113 or, for an acidified pack, 21 CFR 114. Linings are specified BPA-NI to meet Regulation (EU) 2024/3190. Cartons of retail or catering cans move palletised or floor-loaded in 20-ft or 40-ft dry containers on FOB, CFR and CIF terms; minimum runs are confirmed per product and pack. Send the style, can size, drained weight, label and discharge port and the enquiry is screened and worked against it.

Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.
