Canned Sweet Corn (Whole Kernel in Brine & Vacuum Packed)

Whole kernel sweet corn in brine or vacuum packed, from Thai, Hungarian, French and Chinese canneries

Canned sweet corn is bought as whole kernel corn in light brine or vacuum packed, and the pack decides how much corn the buyer gets. In a brine pack the can holds kernels and liquid; a vacuum pack is sealed with little liquid under high vacuum, and US rules under 21 CFR 155.130 allow the words "vacuum pack" only where the liquid is no more than 20% of the net weight, and set whole kernel drained weight at no less than 61% of the container's water capacity. The Codex reference is CXS 297-2009, the standard for certain canned vegetables, whose sweet corn annex replaced the older CXS 18-1981. The retail sizes are the 400 g and 425 ml cans, and pizza makers, salad bars and caterers buy the A10 or 2.5 kg can. Sweet corn is a low-acid food, so every can is retorted to commercial sterility, and the best-before date is set by the cannery and printed on each can. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 2005.80 total USD 1.21 billion and about 776,000 MT across 87 reporters: Hungary USD 265 million and 135,000 MT, Thailand USD 237 million and 217,500 MT, France USD 194 million and 90,800 MT, China USD 193 million and 169,400 MT, Spain USD 90 million and 43,000 MT, the USA USD 71 million and 44,900 MT, then Poland, Brazil, the Netherlands and Belgium at about USD 18-20 million each. Thailand and China ship the largest tonnages. Those are declared export values, not offers.

The buyer is an importer-distributor, a supermarket private-label desk, a pizza and sandwich chain or a foodservice wholesaler in the Gulf, South and Southeast Asia, Africa or Europe, and the offer is a price per carton for a stated pack, can and drained weight. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers canned sweet corn from canneries in Thailand, Hungary, France, China, Spain and the USA, in the cannery's brand or the buyer's private label, against the origin authority's health certificate, the cannery's certificate of analysis for drained weight, vacuum and seam checks, a certificate of origin and a halal certificate from a body the destination accepts. EU-bound cans are tested against Regulation (EU) 2023/915, which caps inorganic tin in canned food other than beverages at 200 mg/kg; Gulf labels follow GSO 9 with Arabic text and production and expiry dates; and US-bound cans need the cannery's food canning establishment registration and scheduled process filed with the FDA under 21 CFR 108 and 113. Linings are specified BPA-NI to meet Regulation (EU) 2024/3190. Cartons of retail or catering cans move palletised or floor-loaded in 20-ft or 40-ft dry containers on FOB, CFR and CIF terms; minimum runs are confirmed per product and pack. Send the pack, can size, drained weight, label and discharge port and the enquiry is screened and worked against it.

Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.
