Jute Bags & Hessian Cloth (B-Twill, A-Twill, Food-Grade)

B-Twill and A-Twill sacking, hessian cloth and bags, and hydrocarbon-free food-grade jute to IJO 98/01 for coffee, cocoa, rice, sugar and seed

Jute packaging divides into sacking, the heavy twill-weave cloth of grain and sugar bags, and hessian (burlap), the lighter plain-weave cloth used for coffee and cocoa bags, wrapping and lining. The standard sacking bags are named by construction: B-Twill, 44 x 26.5 inches (112 x 67 cm), 2.25 lb (about 1,020 g), 6 x 8 porter and shot, three blue stripes, holding 80-90 kg; A-Twill, the same size at 2.62 lb (about 1,190 g), 8 x 9 porter and shot, double warp, for 100 kg; Binola or C-Twill at 2.0 lb (about 907 g) as the lighter grade; and Heavy Cees, 43 x 29 inches at 2.5 lb with green stripes for 100 kg. Hessian bags run about 464-560 g at 11 x 12 porter and shot in sizes such as 40 x 28 inches, and hessian cloth is sold by width and weight in ounces per yard. Food-grade jute is the part of the trade that carries a standard: IJO Standard 98/01, written by the International Jute Organisation in 1998 and revised in 2005, requires bags for coffee, cocoa and shelled nuts to be woven from yarn batched with non-toxic, food-approved vegetable oil in place of mineral oil, with unsaponifiable matter not above 1,250 mg/kg, and such bags are sold as hydrocarbon-free or vegetable-oil-treated (VOT); in 2026 the European Coffee Federation and the European Cocoa Association published an updated industry specification for jute bags in coffee and cocoa food contact, and buyers name the standard they require. Sacking bags are HS 6305.10, sacks and bags of jute, and hessian cloth is HS 5310, woven fabrics of jute. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 6305.10 total USD 161 million and about 90,000 MT across 102 reporters: India USD 100 million and 60,000 MT, Côte d'Ivoire USD 11 million, China USD 9 million, the United Kingdom USD 5 million, Pakistan USD 4 million, the Netherlands USD 4 million, South Africa USD 2 million, Italy USD 2 million, Kenya USD 2 million and Germany USD 2 million; Bangladesh, the largest producer of raw jute and jute goods, does not appear in the 2024 reporter pull. Those are declared export values, not offers.

Two trade-policy facts decide where a bag is bought. India applies anti-dumping duties to jute yarn and twine, hessian fabric and jute sacking bags and cloth from Bangladesh and Nepal, imposed in December 2022 and re-quantified by Notification 24/2026-Customs (ADD) of 24 September 2026 after a mid-term review, with producer-specific rates from nil to USD 445 per tonne for residual Bangladeshi yarn and twine; that duty applies to imports into India only and does not touch a Bangladeshi bag shipped to a coffee or cocoa origin. Bangladesh pays exporters cash assistance of 5% on finished jute products and 3% on jute yarn and twine for the 2026-27 financial year, and up to 10% on diversified jute products (Bangladesh Bank export incentive circular, FY27). Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.
