High-Purity 4N Tin Ingots (99.99% Sn)

Ultra-pure 99.99% refined tin ingots with trace impurity control for microelectronics, lead-free solders and plating

High-purity 4N tin ingots represent the upper echelon of refined tin trading under HS 8001.10, requiring a guaranteed minimum metallic purity of 99.99% Sn. Unlike standard LME Grade A tin (which requires 99.85% Sn minimum), 4N tin is produced by specialized electrolytic refining or vacuum distillation processes to eliminate deleterious trace elements. The critical quality parameters focus not merely on tin content, but on minute parts-per-million (ppm) ceilings: lead (Pb) below 50 ppm (frequently specified < 20 ppm for ultra-clean electronics), arsenic (As) below 20 ppm, antimony (Sb) below 50 ppm, bismuth (Bi) below 20 ppm, and iron (Fe) below 15 ppm. These stringent thresholds are vital to prevent alpha-particle emission, electrical shorting and solder joint embrittlement in semiconductor packaging.

4N tin is primarily consumed in the manufacture of high-reliability lead-free solder pastes (SAC305 and ultra-low alpha alloys), ball grid array (BGA) spheres for advanced microprocessors, sputtering targets for photovoltaic thin-film coatings, and high-specification electroplating baths for connector pins. It also serves as the chemical precursor for high-purity organotin stabilizers, catalyst reagents, and optical glass manufacturing. CBIL brokers 4N tin ingots from accredited primary smelting and refining facilities in Southeast Asia, South America (Peru Minsur / Funsur) and Europe, packaged as standard 25 kg ingots bundled onto 1,000 kg strapped pallets. Shipments are backed by full spark-OES or ICP-MS mass spectrometer assay certificates detailing 18 trace elements, with secure containerized ocean and air freight logistics on FOB, CFR or CIF terms.

High-Purity 4N Tin Ingots (99.99% Sn) — buyer questions

What differentiates 4N tin from standard LME Grade A tin?

LME Grade A tin (BS EN 610 / ASTM B339) requires a minimum purity of 99.85% Sn and allows up to 1,000 ppm of combined impurities. 4N tin requires 99.99% Sn minimum with individual penalties on lead, antimony, bismuth and arsenic kept in the low parts-per-million (ppm) range. For microelectronics, medical devices and aerospace soldering, standard Grade A tin is prohibited due to risk of solder voiding and whiskers.

How is purity verified on 4N tin deliveries?

Every production batch undergoes glow discharge mass spectrometry (GD-MS) or inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) to quantify 18 to 24 individual trace elements down to sub-ppm levels. The heat/melt number stamped on each 25 kg ingot correlates directly to the accredited manufacturer's spectrographic test certificate.

How is 4N tin shipped securely to avoid theft or damage?

Given the high value of refined tin, ingots are strapped securely with heavy-gauge steel bands onto shrink-wrapped 1,000 kg pallets and loaded into 20ft steel dry containers with high-security bolt seals. High-value parcels for urgent semiconductor lines can also be arranged via air freight on DAP terms.
