Zinc Oxide (Rubber Grade 99.7%, Ceramic & Feed Grade)
French-process ZnO at 99.7% for tyre and rubber compounding, ceramic grades and feed-grade zinc oxide, in bags by container
Zinc oxide is sold on process and grade. Indirect (French) process oxide is made by melting and vaporising zinc metal at about 910 to 1,000 °C and oxidising the vapour in air, then collecting the fume in cyclones and baghouses, which is why it is the low-impurity route and the one used for grades of 99.7% ZnO and above; direct (American) process oxide is reduced from ore or secondary zinc and carries more lead and cadmium. ISO 9298:2017, the rubber industry's test standard, applies to both types and to precipitated and calcined oxides, and sets the methods for loss on heating at 105 °C, water-soluble matter, sieve residue and surface area, with an annex classifying rubber-grade oxides by typical values. A published French-process rubber grade reads 99.7% ZnO minimum on an ignited basis (99.9% typical), lead 0.05% maximum (0.01% typical) and cadmium 0.01% maximum by ASTM D4075, loss at 110 °C 0.3% maximum, surface area 4 to 6 m²/g by ASTM D4315 and 0.03% maximum retained on 325 mesh, and complies with ASTM D79. Surface area is the number a compounder reads after purity: standard oxide sits around 5 to 10 m²/g, while so-called active zinc oxide at 30 to 60 m²/g lets a tyre plant use less zinc per batch for the same activation. Coated grades, treated with fatty acid, oil or wetting agent to disperse faster in the mix, are covered by the same standard. Feed grade is a different specification: under EU Implementing Regulation 2016/1095 zinc oxide is an authorised trace-element feed additive for all animal species, and the EU allows it lead up to 400 mg/kg against the 100 mg/kg applied to other trace-element compounds, with complete-feed zinc capped at 180 mg/kg for salmonids and calf milk replacers, 150 mg/kg for piglets, sows, rabbits and other fish and 120 mg/kg for other species. Zinc oxide is declared under HS 2817.00 together with zinc peroxide.
The buyers are tyre plants and rubber goods makers, where rubber and tyres are the largest single outlet for zinc oxide, ceramic tile and glaze producers, feed-premix and mineral-mix plants, and paint, glass and chemical makers, in the Gulf, South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Africa and Türkiye. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers French-process and direct-process zinc oxide from producer and trader parcels in China, India, Malaysia, Türkiye and Spain, against the producer's certificate of analysis per lot covering ZnO on an ignited basis, lead, cadmium, loss on heating, surface area and sieve residue, a certificate of origin and a safety data sheet, with independent sampling by SGS, Bureau Veritas or Intertek at stuffing on first shipments. For feed grade the lot also carries the heavy-metal analysis the destination's feed authority requires, and for FDA-related uses the producer's own compliance statement. Zinc oxide is container cargo, 25 kg paper bags on pallets or 1 MT big bags, on FOB, CFR and CIF terms, and minimum lots are confirmed per product and pack. Send the grade, the lead and surface-area limits, monthly tonnage and discharge port, and the enquiry is screened and worked against it.
Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.

Zinc Oxide (Rubber Grade 99.7%, Ceramic & Feed Grade) — buyer questions
What is the difference between French-process and American-process zinc oxide?
The feed. French (indirect) process oxide is made by vaporising zinc metal and burning the vapour in air, so it carries only the impurities in the metal and reaches 99.7% ZnO and above with lead and cadmium in the hundredths of a percent. American (direct) process oxide is reduced from ore or secondary zinc and oxidised in the same step, which leaves more lead and cadmium; it is cheaper and used where colour and heavy metals matter less. ISO 9298:2017 covers both, plus precipitated and calcined oxides.
What do tyre plants check on a rubber-grade zinc oxide certificate?
ZnO on an ignited basis, lead and cadmium, loss on heating, sieve residue and surface area, all by ISO 9298 or the ASTM methods the producer cites. A published French-process rubber grade reads 99.7% ZnO minimum, 0.05% lead and 0.01% cadmium maximum, 0.3% loss at 110 °C and 4 to 6 m²/g surface area. A plant moving to active zinc oxide at 30 to 60 m²/g re-tunes its cure system to use less zinc per batch.
What makes zinc oxide feed grade?
The additive authorisation and the heavy-metal limits. In the EU, zinc oxide is authorised as a trace-element feed additive for all animal species under Implementing Regulation 2016/1095, with lead allowed up to 400 mg/kg in the additive and total zinc in complete feed capped at 120 to 180 mg/kg depending on the species. Each destination's feed authority sets its own list, so the lot carries the heavy-metal analysis and the producer's feed registration.
How is zinc oxide shipped and priced?
In 25 kg paper bags on pallets or 1 MT big bags in 20-foot containers on FOB, CFR or CIF terms, with the safety data sheet and certificate of analysis per lot. Price is per metric tonne on grade, following the zinc metal price that is the producer's main cost, and is confirmed per enquiry.
