Special High Grade 99.995% zinc to LME and ASTM B6, High Grade and Prime Western, in slab and jumbo ingots
Zinc ingot is bought on grade, brand and form. Special High Grade (SHG) at 99.995% Zn minimum is the LME deliverable grade and matches ASTM B6 LME Grade, EN 1179 Z1 and GB/T 470 Zn99.995; lead and cadmium are each held to 0.003% and iron to 0.002%, which is what continuous galvanising lines and zinc die-casting alloy makers need. High Grade (HG, 99.95% Zn) and Prime Western (PW, 98.0% Zn with lead up to 1.4%) are the older ASTM B6 grades, cheaper per tonne and still used in batch hot-dip galvanising, brass making and zinc oxide. The second question is brand: metal from a smelter whose brand is registered with the LME carries a known chemistry and trades at LME plus a premium, while off-brand ingot from an unregistered smelter or a remelter is bought on its own certificate of analysis at a discount, and needs independent sampling to be priced with any confidence. Form follows the buyer's kettle: slab ingots of about 25 kg strapped in bundles of roughly 1 MT for batch galvanisers and alloy plants, and jumbo ingots of around 1 MT for continuous lines that melt without re-stacking. On the trade, UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 7901 (unwrought zinc, refined and alloyed together) sum to USD 12.07 billion and 3.19 million MT across the reporting countries, led by Korea (USD 1.32 billion; 460,106 MT), Canada (USD 1.17 billion), the Netherlands (USD 1.15 billion; 402,549 MT), Australia (USD 1.15 billion; 398,878 MT) and Spain (USD 1.15 billion).
The buyers are hot-dip galvanisers of structural steel, pipe, wire and fasteners, continuous galvanising lines at steel mills, zinc die-casters making Zamak alloys for hardware, taps and automotive parts, brass mills, and zinc oxide and chemical makers, in the Gulf, South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Africa and Turkiye. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers SHG, HG and PW zinc ingot from smelter and trader parcels of Korean, Australian, Canadian, Dutch, Spanish, Finnish, Peruvian, Mexican and Indian origin. Every offer is worked against the producer's certificate of analysis, the brand certificate and a certificate of origin, and against producer or warehouse documents and inspection rather than a seller's word: paper-metal fraud, where the warehouse receipt or the container does not hold what the invoice says, is a known risk in refined metals, so independent weighing and sampling at stuffing by SGS, Bureau Veritas or Intertek is part of a normal contract. Zinc moves in bundles strapped and loaded into 20-foot containers, 25 MT to a box, on FOB, CFR and CIF terms. Send the grade and standard, brand preference or off-brand tolerance, slab or jumbo, monthly tonnage and discharge port, and the desk matches smelter parcels against them.
Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.

What is the difference between SHG, HG and Prime Western zinc?
Purity and the impurities that come with it. Special High Grade is 99.995% Zn minimum (99.99% under the older ASTM B6 SHG line) with lead and cadmium each at 0.003% or less; it is the LME grade and the one die-casting alloy makers and continuous galvanising lines need. High Grade is 99.95% Zn and Prime Western 98.0% Zn with up to 1.4% lead; both are cheaper and still used in batch galvanising, where some lead in the bath is tolerated, and in brass and zinc oxide.
Should I buy LME-registered brand or off-brand zinc?
An LME-registered brand has been tested against the contract and is accepted in LME warehouses, so its chemistry and weights are predictable and it resells easily; it carries a premium. Off-brand ingot from an unregistered smelter or a remelter can meet the same analysis, but you are relying on the certificate of analysis for that lot alone, so price it at a discount and make independent sampling at loading a condition of the contract.
How is zinc ingot priced?
Off the LME zinc cash or three-month price, as a fixed price or as an average over an agreed quotation period, plus a premium that reflects brand, form, origin and the delivery region. Jumbo ingots and prompt metal near the buyer usually carry a higher premium than standard slabs shipped from a distant smelter.
What documents and inspection come with a zinc shipment?
The producer's certificate of analysis per lot, the brand or producer certificate, a certificate of origin, a packing list with bundle weights, and the bill of lading. Independent weighing, sampling and analysis at stuffing by SGS, Bureau Veritas or Intertek is advised on every first shipment, and the contract should say whether the load-port or discharge-port analysis governs.
