Dicalcium Phosphate (DCP 18% P) & Monocalcium Phosphate (MCP) Feed Grade
Feed phosphates bought on phosphorus, calcium-to-phosphorus ratio, citric solubility and fluorine
Feed phosphates are the calcium phosphates a feed mill adds for phosphorus, and the EU Catalogue of feed materials, Regulation (EU) No 68/2013, defines them by formula and calcium-to-phosphorus ratio. Dicalcium phosphate (entry 11.3.1, HS 2835.25) is calcium monohydrogen phosphate, CaHPO4 anhydrous or as the dihydrate, with Ca/P above 1.2 and up to 3% chloride; the dihydrate carries 18.0% phosphorus by formula (30.97 of 172.09 g/mol), which is the 18% P grade, and anhydrous DCP 22.8%. Monocalcium phosphate (11.3.3, HS 2835.26) is Ca(H2PO4)2 with Ca/P below 0.9 and 24.6% phosphorus by formula as the monohydrate, and mono-dicalcium phosphate (11.3.2) sits between them with Ca/P from 0.8 to 1.3. The catalogue requires phosphorus insoluble in 2% citric acid to be declared when it exceeds 10% and, for DCP, ash insoluble in hydrochloric acid when it exceeds 5%. DCP is made by neutralising calcium hydroxide with phosphoric acid, and the catalogue also admits DCP obtained from bones, so buyers who need it specify an inorganic source. The limit that rejects lots is fluorine: Directive 2002/32/EC caps fluorine in feed phosphates at 2,000 mg/kg, with arsenic and cadmium at 10 mg/kg and lead at 15 mg/kg, relative to feed at 12% moisture, and the catalogue lists defluorinated phosphate as its own feed material. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 2835.25 total USD 365 million and 538,600 MT across 61 reporters: China USD 130 million and 275,400 MT, Peru USD 42 million and 79,700 MT, France 35,800 MT, Morocco USD 14 million and 27,200 MT, Belgium 19,300 MT, Spain 12,300 MT and Tunisia USD 9 million; Viet Nam, not yet reported for 2024, declared USD 19 million in 2023. Under HS 2835.26, which carries MCP with other calcium phosphates, exports total USD 1.22 billion: China USD 290 million and 497,400 MT, Morocco USD 161 million and 298,200 MT, the USA USD 98 million, Tunisia USD 88 million, Spain USD 76 million, Türkiye USD 57 million and 80,800 MT, Serbia USD 42 million and 62,200 MT and South Africa USD 17 million and 50,200 MT.
China's export curbs reported since March 2026 cover DAP, MAP, certain NPK formulations, nitrogen-potassium blends and certain phosphate varieties, so a Chinese DCP or MCP offer is worked only where the exporter shows the grade is cleared for export. In the USA, the countervailing duty orders on phosphate fertilizers in force since April 2021 exclude dicalcium phosphate and monocalcium phosphate by chemical formula, and US Customs classifies feed-grade DCP under 2835.25 and MCP, including pellets, under 2835.26. The buyer is a compound feed mill, a mineral feed or premix producer or an integrator. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers DCP, MCP and MDCP from producers in China, Morocco, Tunisia, Peru, Spain, Belgium, Türkiye, Serbia, South Africa and Viet Nam, with Moroccan lots carrying the producing plant on the certificate of origin, against the producer's certificate of analysis for total phosphorus, calcium, phosphorus insoluble in 2% citric acid, fluorine, arsenic, cadmium and lead, a certificate of origin, the producer's GMP+ or FAMI-QS certificate and a halal certificate where the destination requires one. Powder or granular lots move in bags or bulk bags in containers on FOB, CFR and CIF terms, priced per MT on guaranteed phosphorus and pack, and minimum lots are confirmed per product and pack. Send the product, phosphorus guarantee, fluorine limit, volume, pack and discharge port, and the enquiry is screened and worked against it.
Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.

Dicalcium Phosphate (DCP 18% P) & Monocalcium Phosphate (MCP) Feed Grade — buyer questions
Why is DCP sold at 18% phosphorus and MCP at a higher phosphorus?
Because of the formula. Dicalcium phosphate dihydrate, CaHPO4·2H2O, is 18.0% phosphorus (30.97 of 172.09 g/mol) and anhydrous DCP 22.8%; monocalcium phosphate monohydrate is 24.6%. The EU Catalogue of feed materials separates them by calcium-to-phosphorus ratio, above 1.2 for DCP and below 0.9 for MCP, and commercial grades are sold on the phosphorus guarantee stated on the specification and certified per lot.
What fluorine limit applies to feed phosphates?
In the EU, 2,000 mg/kg in phosphates under Directive 2002/32/EC, with arsenic and cadmium at 10 mg/kg and lead at 15 mg/kg. Complete feed has its own fluorine limits, including 100 mg/kg for pigs and 350 mg/kg for poultry other than chicks, so the phosphate's fluorine is checked against the finished ration too.
Are Chinese feed phosphates affected by China's export curbs?
China's export curbs reported since March 2026 cover DAP, MAP, certain NPK formulations, nitrogen-potassium blends and certain phosphate varieties. A Chinese DCP or MCP offer is worked only where the exporter shows the grade is cleared for export; Morocco, Tunisia, Peru, Spain, Belgium, Türkiye, Serbia, South Africa and Viet Nam are the other declared exporters.
Which HS codes apply to DCP and MCP?
Dicalcium phosphate is HS 2835.25 and monocalcium phosphate falls under 2835.26, other phosphates of calcium; US Customs has classified granular feed DCP and MCP pellets on those lines. The US countervailing duty orders on phosphate fertilizers exclude both by chemical formula.
