Feed Vitamins & Vitamin Premixes (A, D3, E, B-Complex)
Vitamin straights and the premixes built on them, bought on potency per gram, matrix and source
Feed vitamins are bought as concentrated straights that premix plants dilute, and as premixtures, which EU law defines as mixtures of feed additives, or of additives with feed materials or water used as carriers, not intended for direct feeding. The straights are stabilised forms. Vitamin A is sold as retinyl acetate beadlets at 1,000,000 IU per gram in a gelatin and glucose matrix; vitamin D3 as powders at 500,000 IU per gram, which a 2020 US ruling found built on sucrose, starch and acacia or on gelatin, with sunflower oil, silica and BHT; and vitamin E as all-rac-alpha-tocopheryl acetate, an oil of more than 93% purity (EU 3a700) sold for feed on silica or in gelatin coatings, with 1 mg counted as 1 IU. The B vitamins are purified solids: thiamine mononitrate at 98% (3a821) or hydrochloride at 98.5% (3a820), riboflavin at 80% or 96% depending on the production strain (3a825i and 3a825ii), calcium D-pantothenate at 98% (3a841) and cyanocobalamin at 96% (for example 3a836). Retinyl acetate is 3a672a and cholecalciferol 3a671, both produced by chemical synthesis. Vitamin D3 is made industrially by ultraviolet irradiation of 7-dehydrocholesterol extracted from lanolin in sheep's wool, and gelatin appears in many A, D3 and E matrices, so the source of both is declared and halal-certified sources are specified where the buyer requires. The customs line follows the processing: the HS explanatory note keeps vitamins in heading 2936 when antioxidants, anti-caking agents, coatings or adsorbents do not exceed what preservation or transport needs, but US Customs classified D3 powders diluted with sugars and starch in 2020, and a gelatin-matrix vitamin A 1000 and AD3 1000/200 in June 2026, under 2309.90 as feed preparations, where premixes also sit.
China dominates the straights. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under heading 2936 total USD 8.51 billion and 678,700 MT across 109 reporters, of which China declared USD 3.45 billion and 408,100 MT, 41% of the value and 60% of the tonnage. China's share of declared value is 65% for vitamin E (HS 2936.28), 67% for B5 (2936.24), 59% for B6, 48% for B1 and for B12, 32% for vitamin A and 28% for B2, where Germany, the Netherlands and Korea follow. The buyer is a premix plant, feed mill, integrator or feed distributor. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers feed vitamins from producers in China, Germany, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Spain, India and the USA, and vitamin premixes from premix plants to the buyer's formula, against the producer's certificate of analysis for potency per gram, the matrix and source declaration, a certificate of origin, the EU identification number on EU-bound labels, the producer's FAMI-QS certificate for specialty feed ingredients or GMP+ certificate, and a halal certificate where the destination requires one. EU authorisations for vitamin E require the directions for use to state storage conditions and heat stability, and shelf life is taken from the producer's specification. US Customs has recorded D3 powders imported in 20 kg and 25 kg bags; lots move in containers on FOB, CFR and CIF terms, priced per kg on potency, form and pack, and minimum lots are confirmed per product and pack. Send the vitamin, potency, form, matrix, volume, pack and discharge port, and the enquiry is screened and worked against it.
Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.

Feed Vitamins & Vitamin Premixes (A, D3, E, B-Complex) — buyer questions
Are feed vitamins classified under HS 2936 or 2309?
It depends on the processing. The HS explanatory note, as applied in US rulings, keeps vitamins in heading 2936 when antioxidants, anti-caking agents, coatings or adsorbents do not exceed what preservation or transport needs; coated vitamin A beadlets were classified under 2936.21 in 1994. D3 powders diluted with sugars and starch (2020) and a gelatin-matrix vitamin A 1000 and AD3 1000/200 (June 2026) were classified under 2309.90, and premixes sit there too. The importer's broker confirms the line per product.
Where does feed vitamin D3 come from, and what does a halal buyer specify?
Industrial vitamin D3 is made by ultraviolet irradiation of 7-dehydrocholesterol extracted from lanolin, the grease in sheep's wool; a lichen-derived form exists for vegan supplements. Many A, D3 and E feed forms also use a gelatin matrix. The source of the D3 and of the matrix is declared on the specification, and halal-certified sources are specified where the buyer requires.
How dependent is the vitamin trade on China?
UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations put China at USD 3.45 billion of USD 8.51 billion under heading 2936, 41% of the value and 60% of the tonnage. China's share is highest for vitamin E (65%), B5 (67%) and B6 (59%), and lower for vitamin A (32%) and B2 (28%), where Germany, the Netherlands and Korea are the next exporters.
What should a vitamin offer and certificate of analysis state?
The vitamin form and potency per gram, the matrix or carrier and its source, the EU identification number for EU-bound lots, storage conditions and heat stability, and the producer's FAMI-QS or GMP+ certificate, with a halal certificate on request. Premix offers add the formula per kg and the carrier, and minimum lots are confirmed per product and pack.
