Palm Kernel Oil (Crude and RBD PKO)

Crude and RBD palm kernel oil, the lauric oil for soap, confectionery fats and oleochemicals

Palm kernel oil is pressed or solvent-extracted from the kernel of the oil palm fruit, not from the mesocarp that gives palm oil. It is a lauric oil, like coconut oil: its C12 lauric acid gives lather in soap, the right chain length for fatty alcohols and surfactants, and a sharp melt in confectionery and coating fats. Crude palm kernel oil is traded at 5% FFA max, expressed as lauric acid. PORAM's RBD palm kernel oil runs FFA 0.1% max, moisture and impurities 0.1% max and iodine value 19 max. Fractionation splits RBD PKO into palm kernel olein and palm kernel stearin.

In 2024 (UN Comtrade, partner World) Indonesia exported 1.31 million MT under HS 1513.29 (refined PKO and fractions) and Malaysia 0.45 million MT. Under HS 1513.21 (crude PKO) Malaysia exported 0.31 million MT, Thailand 0.14 million MT, Colombia 73,000 MT, Guatemala 54,000 MT, Honduras 39,000 MT, Indonesia 37,000 MT and Côte d'Ivoire 31,000 MT, so West Africa and Latin America are real crude PKO origins beside South-East Asia. RBD PKO was quoted at about USD 2,060 per MT FOB Malaysia on 24 September 2026 (published refinery price list). In bulk, palm kernel oil is a MARPOL Annex II Category Y cargo carried heated in IMO Type 2 tankers; container lots go in flexitanks with heating pads. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers crude and RBD palm kernel oil on FOSFA or PORAM terms, FOB, CFR or CIF, with SGS or Intertek certification, certificate of origin, Halal documentation and RSPO, MSPO or ISPO chain-of-custody and EU Deforestation Regulation data where the destination requires them.
