RBD Palm Olein CP8 / CP10
CP8 & CP10 fractions from Malaysia & Indonesia
Palm olein is the liquid fraction of RBD palm oil, and the number that names it is the cloud point: CP8 clouds at 8 °C, CP10 at 10 °C. That single figure is the whole commercial distinction. CP8 is the more heavily fractionated, more expensive grade with a higher iodine value (typically ≥ 58) and it stays liquid further down the thermometer — you specify it for warehousing and retail bottling in cooler climates, for winter shipping, and for any destination where the customer will see the bottle before the fryer does. CP10 is the workhorse for tropical and consistently warm markets and for industrial frying, where the oil never approaches its cloud point and the buyer is paying only for fry performance. Alongside cloud point, contracts are written on FFA as palmitic at ≤ 0.1%, moisture and impurities ≤ 0.1%, Lovibond colour ≤ 3.0 red in a 5¼-inch cell, and peroxide value ≤ 5 meq/kg at loading. Melting point and slip point are checked where the buyer is blending into shortening or margarine.
Choose palm olein over refined sunflower or soybean oil when frying performance and cost per tonne drive the decision: its saturated profile and low iodine value give it excellent oxidative stability and fry life at a price that sits below both sibling oils, which is why it dominates commercial frying, instant noodles, snack coatings and biscuit fats. Choose against it when the oil must stay clear in a chilled or temperate environment — below its cloud point it goes hazy and then semi-solid, and no amount of explaining fixes a cloudy retail bottle. Supply is arranged from Malaysian and Indonesian origin in 24 MT flexitanks, ISO tanks, drums and 1L/5L PET, with COA and SGS or Intertek certification of cloud point, FFA, colour, peroxide, moisture and impurities plus Halal and phytosanitary documentation, on FOB, CFR and CIF terms.

RBD Palm Olein CP8 / CP10 — buyer questions
CP8 or CP10 — which do I order?
It is the cloud point in degrees Celsius. CP8 stays liquid down to 8 °C, CP10 to 10 °C. If your warehouse, retail shelf or shipping route drops toward or below 10 °C, take CP8 — it is more fractionated and costs more, but CP10 will haze and look wrong. For tropical or consistently warm destinations and industrial frying, CP10 is the same oil for your purpose at a lower price.
Why is palm olein cheaper than sunflower and soybean oil?
Yield per hectare, mostly. Oil palm produces several times the oil per planted hectare of sunflower or soy, so the raw material is structurally cheaper, and the fractionation and refining route is efficient at scale. That cost advantage is why it dominates commercial frying — but it is not a like-for-like swap into chilled or appearance-led applications.
Can I use palm olein for retail bottled cooking oil?
In warm markets, yes, widely — usually CP8 to give headroom on the shelf. In temperate markets it is risky: below the cloud point the bottle goes hazy and consumers read that as spoilage. If you are bottling for a cooler climate, refined sunflower oil is the safer product even at the premium.
