The single most important physical property is hardness: a block that crumbles is consumed in days and wastes the farmer's money, while properly selected natural rock erodes slowly under licking and lasts a season. What this grade is not is a food-grade product: it is not washed, screened or certified for human consumption, and it should never be routed into a food programme on price.
