Industrial Grade Pink Salt
Unwashed run-of-mine & crushed grades, 96–98% NaCl, bulk
Industrial grade is the salt range's commodity end: the same Khewra and Warcha seams as the edible product, taken as run-of-mine lump or crushed and screened without the washing, food-grade screening and certification that the edible, bath and retail grades carry. It is specified on sodium chloride at 96–98%, moisture at 1–3% because it is not dried to food standard, water-insolubles at up to 2% (shale and clay from the seam), and a size cut: run-of-mine lump for buyers who crush on site, crushed 5–50 mm for de-icing and dissolvers, and coarse granular 1–5 mm for water softeners and industrial dissolving. Colour is mixed pink and white and is irrelevant to every use on this page. What matters commercially is that it is priced as a bulk mineral, tens of dollars a tonne at the mine, so freight from Karachi decides the delivered cost and the buyer's port and handling decide whether the trade works at all.
Buy industrial grade when the salt is a process input and nobody sees it: highway and municipal de-icing, water-softener and treatment salt, chlor-alkali and soda-ash feed, textile dyeing, tanneries and hide curing, oil-well drilling fluids and industrial dissolving. Do not buy it for anything that touches food, cosmetics or livestock, because it is neither washed nor certified for those uses; the other spokes in this family cover them. Pakistan's white and pink rock-salt seams supply this market by container and, for the larger buyers, by bulk vessel out of Karachi and Port Qasim, and the alternative white origin is on the natural rock salt page. CBIL supplies industrial grade against verification of NaCl, moisture, insolubles and screen size at load, in bulk and 1 MT jumbo bags, on FOB, CFR and CIF terms.

Industrial Grade Pink Salt — buyer questions
Is industrial grade just cheaper edible salt?
Same seam, different product. Industrial grade is not washed, not screened to a food mesh, not tested for heavy metals against food limits and not produced under food-contact conditions, which is exactly why it costs a fraction of the edible price. It is the right buy for a process input and the wrong buy for anything eaten, fed or put on skin. Do not route it into a food or feed programme on price.
Lump, crushed or granular?
Run-of-mine lump if you crush on site or feed a dissolver that takes large pieces; it is the cheapest form and ships densest. Crushed 5–50 mm for de-icing spreaders and most industrial dissolving. Coarse granular 1–5 mm for water softeners and processes that need a consistent feed. Nominate the cut in the contract; 'industrial salt' on its own can mean any of them.
How does freight compare with the mine price?
It dominates. At the mine the salt is worth tens of dollars a tonne; trucking to Karachi, port handling and the sea leg can each add as much again. Price the delivered cost to your port and compare it with the white rock-salt origins closer to you before assuming Pakistan is cheapest. It often is for the Gulf, East Africa and South Asia, and often is not for Europe.
Does the pink colour matter for industrial use?
No. The colour is iron oxide and has no effect on a dissolver, a softener or a road. Lots are mixed pink and white and are not colour-graded. If a buyer needs white salt for appearance, say in a textile or chemical process where colour carries through, the white rock salt page is the right product.
