Coarse & granular bath grade, plain or scented

Bath and spa grade sits between the edible and décor ends of the range, and it is bought on particle size and dissolution behaviour rather than on food certification. Cuts run coarse at 1–2 mm, granular at 2–5 mm, and chunky at 5–10 mm for display jars and bath-bomb inclusion, with the coarser cuts preferred because they dissolve slowly enough to be visible in the tub and look substantial in a clear pack. Sodium chloride runs 97–98% with the mineral traces intact, moisture ≤ 0.5% and insolubles kept low because a bath salt that leaves grit in the tub generates complaints. The product ships plain for brands doing their own blending, or pre-scented and colour-blended to a specification — essential-oil scenting, added colourants, and blends with Epsom or dead-sea salt are all standard, and where a brand is making cosmetic claims the formulation and its documentation matter more than the salt itself.

Buy bath grade rather than edible when the salt is going into a cosmetic or wellness product: bath salts and soaks, body and foot scrubs, spa treatment lines, bath bombs, and private-label wellness retail. Cosmetic-grade documentation is the real differentiator — heavy-metal testing, microbiological limits where a wet-use claim is made, and in the EU a CPNP notification for the finished product, which is the brand's responsibility rather than the salt supplier's but which drives what certification the raw material must carry. It is worth being blunt about one thing: the wellness claims commonly attached to pink salt — trace-mineral absorption through the skin, ionisation benefits — are not well supported, and a brand building a claim on them is taking a regulatory risk in most markets.
