6063 Aluminium Extrusion Scrap

Clean, painted and thermal-break 6063 for extruders that cast their own billet

6063 is the architectural extrusion alloy — window and door frames, curtain wall, shopfitting and the long profiles of a building's envelope — and its scrap is bought by the people who make it. An extruder that casts its own billet can put clean 6063 back through the furnace with a magnesium and silicon trim and little else, which is why the grade prices near the top of everyday aluminium scrap and why its definition is strict. Clean 6063 is mill-finish or anodised extrusion, free of paint, plastic, rubber gaskets, steel screws and other alloys, with copper held at 0.10% or less — copper above that shows up in the billet and then in the extruded surface. Painted 6063 is the same alloy under powder coat or liquid paint; it melts at a loss as the coating burns off, and it discounts for that. Thermal-break profiles are the hardest case: a polyamide or resin strip locked between two aluminium sections, which is either shredded and separated before shipment or deducted on a measured sample, because the plastic cannot go into a billet furnace. 6061 is a different alloy — its copper, magnesium and chromium run well above the 6063 limits because it is built for structural and machined parts — so it is kept as a separate grade, and a mixed lot prices to the lower of the two. In the India trade the clean grade is assessed under the name "Tata" on a CFR basis, and Middle East-origin 6063 was assessed at $2,950/t CFR India on 17 February 2026.

Pakistan is where the volume sits closest. It imported 141,474 t of HS 7602 aluminium scrap in 2025, up from 100,931 t in 2024, with the Netherlands (19.9%), Belgium (13.6%) and the USA (11.0%) the leading origins (UN Comtrade, 2025 import declarations, reporter Pakistan). The average declared value of about $1,030–1,070/t CIF points to a mix dominated by lower grades, so a buyer after genuinely clean 6063 should expect to pay well above that average; US yard buying indications for clean 6063 stood around $1.26/lb (≈ $2,778/t) in mid-September 2026. The buyers are extruders that cast their own billet and secondary smelters producing alloy ingot, in Pakistan and India alike, and clean 6063 clears in Pakistan under PCT 7602.0090 at 0% customs duty and 18% sales tax. One planning point for anyone building a European supply line: EU green-list aluminium scrap can flow to non-OECD countries only until 20 May 2027, after which the EU exports only to countries on its approved list — Pakistan has applied and the outcome is not yet known — while no equivalent UK cutoff has been announced. Each lot is XRF-checked for copper and alloy mix, carries a radiation-free certificate and ships dry in containers; freight is container freight quoted through lines and forwarders, and LC at sight is the usual payment on Pakistani buy offers.

Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.

6063 Aluminium Extrusion Scrap — buyer questions

Which origins do you not handle?

Scrap of excluded origin is not offered, including material collected, processed or re-exported through a third country. Each lot moves with a certificate of origin and a radiation-free certificate, and the seller declares where the scrap was generated before a price is discussed.

What makes 6063 extrusion scrap "clean"?

Mill-finish or anodised 6063 profile with no paint, plastic, rubber gaskets, steel screws or other alloys in it, and copper at 0.10% or less. That is the material an extruder can put straight back into billet. Anything carrying coating, a thermal break or mixed alloys is a different grade at a different price, and the copper ceiling belongs in the contract rather than being assumed.

How are painted and thermal-break profiles priced?

Painted 6063 discounts for the metal lost as the coating burns off, with the coating declared per lot. Thermal-break profiles carry a polyamide or resin strip that cannot go into a billet furnace, so they are either shredded and separated before shipment or priced with the plastic measured on a sample and deducted. Buying thermal-break material at a clean price is paying aluminium money for plastic.

Why keep 6061 separate from 6063?

Because its copper, magnesium and chromium run well above what a 6063 billet allows — 6061 is built for structural and machined parts, not architectural profile. Mixed into a 6063 lot it pushes the chemistry off specification, and a mixed lot prices to the lower grade. Segregated at the yard, each grade finds the buyer that pays for it.

Will EU-origin 6063 still be available after May 2027?

Plan as if it may not be. EU green-list aluminium scrap can go to non-OECD countries only until 20 May 2027; after that, only destinations on the EU's approved list qualify. Pakistan has applied and the outcome is not yet known. The UK has announced no equivalent cutoff and US origin is unaffected, so a supply line built today is worth building with those origins in it too.
