Spray-dried, agglomerated & freeze-dried — bulk and private label

Instant coffee is an extract: roasted coffee is brewed at industrial scale, concentrated, and dried to a powder that dissolves back into a cup. The drying method is the first line of any contract, because it sets appearance, flavour retention and price. Spray-dried powder is atomised into hot air and is the cheapest and most common form; agglomerated coffee is spray-dried powder rewetted and clustered into granules so it looks and pours like the premium grades and dissolves without clumping; freeze-dried coffee is frozen and dried under vacuum, which keeps more aroma and gives the dark crystalline granule sold at the top of the retail shelf. The bean input matters as much as the dryer — most spray-dried coffee is built on robusta for yield and body, while freeze-dried and premium lines carry more arabica. Specifications run on moisture, bulk density, colour, particle size, solubility in hot and cold water, caffeine, and a sensory reference against an agreed standard. Brazil describes itself as the largest producer and exporter of instant coffee, shipping a record 4.09 million bags (green-coffee equivalent) in 2024 according to its industry association ABICS; UN Comtrade shows USD 7.02 billion of HS 2101.11 exports in 2024, led by Germany and Brazil at about 13% each, then Spain, India, Mexico and the Netherlands.

Buy bulk soluble in 25 kg lined cartons or bags if you repack under your own brand, blend 3-in-1 mixes, or use coffee as an ingredient in bakery, dairy, confectionery or ready-to-drink lines; buy finished private label in jars, stick packs and sachets if you want a retail-ready product without a filling line. The point to be disciplined about is sampling against a standard, because two freeze-dried offers at different prices are rarely the same coffee — ask what the blend base is, and cup both. Every lot moves against a certificate of analysis, a certificate of origin, and halal or kosher certificates where your market needs them. For the EU, soluble coffee has an ochratoxin A maximum of 5.0 µg/kg under Regulation (EU) 2023/915 and an acrylamide benchmark level of 850 µg/kg under Regulation (EU) 2017/2158. EUDR is a moving point for this product: the Commission's delegated act of 13 July 2026 adds soluble coffee (HS 2101 11) to the EU Deforestation Regulation from 30 December 2027, subject to scrutiny by the European Parliament and Council, while green and roasted coffee under HS 0901 are in scope from 30 December 2026 for large and medium operators. Pricing follows the underlying bean market, the ICE arabica "KC" contract and ICE London robusta, plus processing and packing, so it is quoted per lot. Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.
