Roasted Coffee Beans (Private Label)

Whole bean & ground, private label — valve bags, roast to profile

Roasted coffee is contracted on four things the green trade never has to specify: the roast profile, the blend, the pack and the shelf life. The profile is agreed against a physical reference sample and a colour reading, light for filter, medium for all-purpose blends, dark for espresso, and the roaster should hold that reference for the whole programme so the tenth shipment tastes like the first. The blend states the origins and the share of arabica and robusta, and it is part of the contract rather than a trade secret, because it drives both cost and cup. Freshly roasted coffee releases carbon dioxide for days, so whole bean is packed in bags with a one-way degassing valve that lets gas out without letting oxygen in, often with a nitrogen flush; ground coffee degasses faster and stales faster, which is why it needs tighter packing and a shorter best-before. Shelf life is set by the pack, the oxygen level at sealing and the storage conditions, and it should be written into the contract with the date format for your market. Roasting is concentrated near consumers: UN Comtrade shows USD 15.17 billion of roasted, non-decaffeinated coffee (HS 0901.21) exported in 2024, led by Switzerland (23.9%), Italy (17.5%) and Germany (13.6%), with France, the Netherlands and the United States behind.

Buy roasted coffee in bulk or private label when you want a coffee range without a roastery: supermarket and discounter own-label, hotel, office and food-service supply, online brands, and distributors in markets where local roasting capacity is thin. Buy green coffee instead if you roast yourself or want control of the profile week to week. The documents are a certificate of analysis, a certificate of origin, food-safety certification of the roasting plant (such as FSSC 22000, BRCGS or IFS), and halal or kosher certificates where required. For the EU, roasted coffee has an ochratoxin A maximum of 3.0 µg/kg under Regulation (EU) 2023/915 and an acrylamide benchmark level of 400 µg/kg under Regulation (EU) 2017/2158. Roasted coffee under HS 0901 is in scope of the EU Deforestation Regulation from 30 December 2026 for large and medium operators and from 30 June 2027 for micro and small operators, so the green coffee behind the blend needs plot geolocation. Price follows the green market, referenced to the ICE arabica "KC" and ICE London robusta contracts, plus roasting, packing and freight, so it is quoted per lot. CBIL brokers roasted coffee against blend, roast reference, pack, shelf life and plant certification, on FOB, CFR, CIF and delivered terms.

Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.

Roasted Coffee Beans (Private Label) — buyer questions

How do I keep a private-label roast consistent?

Agree a physical reference sample and a colour reading at the start, and make the roaster hold that reference for the whole programme. Put the blend, origin shares and roast colour in the contract, and cup each shipment against the reference before it is released. Consistency is contracted, not assumed.

Why do the bags have a valve?

Freshly roasted coffee releases carbon dioxide for days. A one-way degassing valve lets that gas out without letting oxygen in, so the bag does not swell and the coffee does not stale. Without a valve, whole bean has to rest before sealing, which costs freshness. Nitrogen flushing at sealing lowers the oxygen further.

What shelf life should I expect?

It depends on the pack, the oxygen left in it at sealing, whole bean against ground, and storage. Ground coffee stales faster than whole bean. Write the best-before period and the date format for your market into the contract, and ask the roaster how they validated it.

Does EUDR apply to roasted coffee?

Yes. Roasted coffee is under HS 0901, which is in scope of the EU Deforestation Regulation from 30 December 2026 for large and medium operators and 30 June 2027 for micro and small operators. The green coffee behind the blend needs plot geolocation and a due diligence statement from the operator that first places it on the EU market.
