Cold-Rolled Steel Coil (CRC: SPCC / DC01, Full Hard & Annealed)

SPCC, DC01–DC04 and ASTM A1008 CRC, full hard or annealed

Cold-rolled coil is pickled hot-rolled strip reduced at room temperature to a thinner, flatter, tighter-tolerance sheet, and it is bought on grade, temper, gauge and surface. The grade sets how far the steel can be formed: JIS G3141 SPCC and EN 10130 DC01 are commercial quality for bending and light forming, SPCD / DC03 is drawing quality and SPCE / DC04 deep drawing quality for pressings that pull hard on the metal, and ASTM A1008 CS Type B is the American commercial grade. The temper is the choice buyers most often get wrong. Full hard coil comes straight off the reversing or tandem mill, unannealed, and is feed for a galvanising, galvalume or tinning line whose furnace does the annealing; annealed and skin-passed coil (the 'SD' in SPCC-SD) is what a stamper, tube mill or panel maker can actually form. Thickness tolerances follow JIS G3141, EN 10131 or ASTM A568, and the contract should name gauge, width, the tolerance class and flatness if the coil goes to a slitter or a precision stamping press. Coils run on a 508 mm or 610 mm inner diameter, and the buyer states the maximum coil weight their decoiler takes. Surface is dull or bright finish, oiled or dry, and the mill test certificate reports chemistry, yield, tensile and elongation against the named standard. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 7209 put the reporter total at USD 13.9 bn and 15.3 Mt, led by China at 4.77 Mt (USD 2.97 bn, about USD 622/MT declared), Korea at 3.33 Mt (about USD 734), Japan at 1.47 Mt (about USD 746), Taiwan at 1.07 Mt (about USD 782) and Germany at 0.94 Mt (about USD 858); the spread is largely grade, width and surface class, with automotive and exposed-panel qualities declaring at the top.

The buyers are roll-formers and tube and pipe mills making furniture tube, conduit and light sections, appliance makers pressing cabinets and drum panels, automotive tier suppliers stamping brackets and inner panels, drum and barrel makers, independent galvanising and colour-coating lines buying full hard substrate, and the steel distributors and service centres that slit and cut it for all of them. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers cold-rolled coil from Asian and European mills and mill-affiliated traders to those buyers, against a mill test certificate to the named standard that states the country where the steel was melted and poured, with no slab or hot band of excluded origin in the chain. That matters more each year: the UK and EU steel import measures both look at melt-and-pour origin, and CRC imported into the EU falls under the EU carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM), so the EU importer needs the mill's embedded-emissions data as a customs-side document. Anti-dumping, countervailing or safeguard duties on cold-rolled flat steel exist in several destinations, and checking the rate that applies to a given mill and origin at the buyer's port is the buyer's check before contracting. Coils are packed export-seaworthy: VCI paper, a galvanised or steel outer wrap, inner and outer edge protectors and steel strapping, shipped eye-to-sky on skids or eye-to-wall on saddles in 20-foot containers for trial and distributor lots, or breakbulk in Handysize and multipurpose tonnage for mill-size parcels, where CBIL's chartering desk (LaycanDesk) quotes the freight with the cargo.
