MAP Fertilizer 11-52-0 / 12-61-0
Monoammonium phosphate, granular & fully water-soluble
MAP comes in two products that share a name and little else commercially. Granular MAP 11-52-0 (some plants run 10-50-0 or 11-55-0) is a field fertilizer sold in bulk and 50 kg bags on the same numbers as DAP: nitrogen, available and water-soluble P₂O₅, moisture at 1.5% maximum and granule size 2–4 mm; its point of difference is a lower pH of about 4–4.5 against DAP's 7.5–8, which keeps phosphate available in alkaline soils and makes it the safer component in blends with ammonium-sensitive material. Technical or water-soluble MAP 12-61-0 is a crystalline, fully soluble product for fertigation, drip irrigation and foliar feeding, specified on solubility, insolubles below 0.1%, and freedom from chloride and heavy metals; it sells in 25 kg bags at a multiple of the granular price and is a different supply chain, from a different set of producers.
Buy granular MAP over DAP when the soil is alkaline or calcareous, when the blend includes ammonium nitrate or urea where DAP's free ammonia causes losses, and when the extra units of P₂O₅ per tonne justify the price; it is the standard starter phosphate in much of Australia, Brazil and the US. Buy water-soluble MAP for greenhouse, orchard and high-value drip-irrigated crops where the whole dose has to dissolve without residue. The bulk trade moves from Morocco, Russia, China and the US in Handysize and Supramax parcels, the soluble grade in containers from China and Europe. CBIL brokers both against independent certification of N, P₂O₅, solubility, moisture and size at load, in bulk, 50 kg and 25 kg bags and jumbo bags, on FOB, CFR and CIF terms.

MAP Fertilizer 11-52-0 / 12-61-0 — buyer questions
Is granular MAP interchangeable with DAP?
In many programmes yes, per unit of P₂O₅, but not blindly. MAP is acidic and DAP is alkaline, so MAP keeps phosphate available in calcareous soils and is the safe partner for urea and ammonium nitrate in a blend, where DAP's free ammonia causes nitrogen loss and caking. DAP carries more nitrogen per tonne. Work the comparison on delivered cost per unit of phosphate for your soil, not on the headline price.
What is the difference between 11-52-0 and 12-61-0?
Two different products. 11-52-0 is granular field MAP with a few percent of insoluble material, spread or blended and priced like DAP. 12-61-0 is technical, fully water-soluble crystalline MAP for drip irrigation, hydroponics and foliar sprays, made to a purity specification and sold in 25 kg bags at a much higher price. Ordering one when you meant the other is a common and expensive mistake; state the use.
Which origins are available?
Granular MAP comes mainly from Morocco, the United States, China and Saudi Arabia, with Russia a large producer we do not work. Water-soluble grade is a Chinese and European speciality. Origin matters for cadmium content and for import licensing in some markets, so tell us the destination and we will source against its rules rather than against the cheapest FOB.
How is the water-soluble grade shipped?
In 25 kg lined bags, palletised in containers, and kept dry; it is hygroscopic and cakes if the bag is breached. Insist on a solubility and insolubles certificate at load, because a technical MAP that leaves residue blocks drippers and that is the complaint that ends a supply relationship.
