SSP 16–20% P₂O₅ with calcium and sulphur, granular and powder
Single super phosphate is phosphate rock treated with sulphuric acid, the oldest manufactured fertilizer and still the cheapest way to deliver phosphate together with sulphur and calcium. Producer and trade specifications put available P₂O₅ at 16–20%, with sulphur at about 11–12% and calcium at 18–21%; granular grades carry moisture of a few percent and 90–95% of granules within about 2–4.5 mm, while powder SSP is sold to blenders and local markets. Buyers who price SSP only on P₂O₅ find it expensive against DAP or TSP; buyers growing oilseeds, pulses, pasture or sugarcane on sulphur-deficient soils count the sulphur too and often find it the better value. Contracts name available and water-soluble P₂O₅, free acid, moisture and size.
UN Comtrade 2024 data put reported SSP exports (HS 3103.19, superphosphates below 35% P₂O₅) at about USD 0.53 billion, led by China (46.2%) and Egypt (16.7%), with India (6.0%), Spain, Uzbekistan and Poland behind; most SSP is made and used domestically, so the export trade is small, bagged-heavy and regional. SSP is a phosphate fertilizer and falls under the EU Fertilising Products Regulation 2019/1009 cadmium limit of 60 mg per kg P₂O₅ for EU fertilising products. CBIL brokers SSP against an SGS, Intertek or Bureau Veritas certificate of analysis for available and water-soluble P₂O₅, sulphur, free acid, moisture, size and, where required, cadmium, with a certificate of origin, in bulk, 50 kg PP bags and jumbo bags. Prices are negotiated per MT on grade, with published phosphate assessments from Argus, CRU and Fertilizer Week as reference points.

Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.

Why buy SSP when TSP and DAP have far more phosphate?
Because SSP also carries about 11–12% sulphur and 18–21% calcium. On sulphur-deficient soils for oilseeds, pulses, pasture and sugarcane, those nutrients would otherwise be bought separately. Compare on delivered cost of the P₂O₅ and S your crop actually needs.
Granular or powder?
Granular SSP spreads and blends with other granules and survives handling; powder is cheaper and is used by blenders and in local markets where it is applied by hand. Specify size range on the contract.
Which countries export SSP?
UN Comtrade 2024 data show China and Egypt supplied over 60% of reported SSP exports, with India, Spain, Uzbekistan and Poland behind. Most SSP never crosses a border, so tell us the grade, bag and port and we will work the producers who export.
What goes on the certificate?
Available and water-soluble P₂O₅, sulphur, free acid, moisture and granule size, from SGS, Intertek or Bureau Veritas, plus cadmium where the destination sets a limit, and a certificate of origin.
