Micronutrient Sulphates: Zinc, Copper, Manganese & Ferrous Sulphate
Fertilizer-grade ZnSO₄, CuSO₄, MnSO₄ and FeSO₄ | mono- and heptahydrate for blenders and foliar formulators
Micronutrient sulphates are bought on the metal assay and the heavy-metal line. Zinc sulphate monohydrate (ZnSO₄·H₂O) is the workhorse grade at 33% Zn minimum, sold as powder or as 0.5–1, 1–2 and 2–4 mm granules for bulk blending, with producer sheets capping lead at 10 ppm, arsenic at 5 ppm and cadmium at 10 ppm; the heptahydrate (ZnSO₄·7H₂O) runs 21.5–22% Zn and is the crystal grade for soil application and foliar solutions where the extra water of crystallisation does not matter. Copper sulphate pentahydrate (CuSO₄·5H₂O) is 25.47% Cu by formula and commercially 24.5–25% Cu minimum at 98% purity, used as a copper micronutrient and as the base of Bordeaux mixture. Manganese sulphate monohydrate (MnSO₄·H₂O) is 32.6% Mn by formula and about 30.5–32% Mn as a fertilizer grade. Ferrous sulphate monohydrate is offered at 30% Fe minimum (lead ≤ 20 ppm, arsenic ≤ 2 ppm, cadmium ≤ 5 ppm) and the heptahydrate at about 19–20% Fe; much ferrous sulphate is a by-product stream, which is why the impurity certificate matters as much as the assay.
The buyers are NPK blenders adding zinc to compound grades, foliar and fertigation formulators who need full solubility and low insolubles, and seed-coating and chelate producers who take the sulphate as their raw material. Customs reporting puts zinc, manganese and ferrous sulphate under HS 2833.29 (other sulphates) and copper sulphate under HS 2833.25, so origin is read line by line: China (Liaoning and other producers), India (Gujarat and Rajasthan micronutrient works), European producers of copper and iron sulphate, and Chilean copper sulphate made alongside the copper industry. CBIL brokers micronutrient sulphates against an SGS, Intertek or Bureau Veritas certificate of analysis for the metal assay, water-insolubles and lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury, with the certificate of origin and, for the EU, the contaminant limits of Regulation 2019/1009, in 25 kg and 50 kg woven bags with liner, and 1,000–1,350 kg jumbo bags. Copper sulphate carries GHS corrosive and environmental-hazard labelling and is documented accordingly for sea freight. Prices are negotiated per MT on grade and pack.

Micronutrient Sulphates: Zinc, Copper, Manganese & Ferrous Sulphate — buyer questions
Monohydrate or heptahydrate zinc sulphate?
Monohydrate carries 33% Zn against 21–22% for the heptahydrate, so it moves less water per tonne of zinc and is made in granules that blend with NPK. Heptahydrate is the crystal grade for direct soil application and for growers who dissolve it on farm. Both are fully water-soluble; the choice is freight and use.
Which figures matter on the certificate?
The metal assay, water-insolubles and the heavy-metal line: producer sheets for zinc sulphate monohydrate cap lead at 10 ppm, arsenic at 5 ppm and cadmium at 10 ppm, and for ferrous sulphate monohydrate lead at 20 ppm, arsenic at 2 ppm and cadmium at 5 ppm. Ferrous sulphate is often a by-product stream, so the impurity certificate is checked before the assay.
Where do micronutrient sulphates come from?
China and India are the main sources of zinc, manganese and ferrous sulphate; copper sulphate is also produced in Europe and in Chile next to the copper industry. Each lot ships with its certificate of origin, which EU buyers need alongside the contaminant limits of Regulation 2019/1009.
How are they packed?
25 kg and 50 kg woven bags with a liner, or 1,000–1,350 kg jumbo bags, palletised in 20 ft containers. The salts are hygroscopic and kept dry; copper sulphate is labelled as corrosive and environmentally hazardous on the shipping documents.
