NPK Compound Fertilizer Grades
16-16-16, 17-17-17, 20-10-10, 12-12-17+2MgO, 20-20-0 & NPS
Compound NPK is made by chemically granulating nitrogen, phosphate and potash in one plant, so each granule carries the full declared analysis, unlike a bulk blend of separate granules that can segregate in handling. The grade is written N-P₂O₅-K₂O: balanced grades such as 16-16-16 and 17-17-17 for general cereals and vegetables, nitrogen-led 20-10-10 for top-dressing, potash-led 12-12-17+2MgO (usually on a sulphate-of-potash or low-chloride basis) for fruit, potatoes, horticulture and chloride-sensitive crops, and NP or NPS grades such as 20-20-0 or 20-20-0+13S where potash is applied separately. Contracts specify each nutrient with a tolerance, water-soluble P₂O₅ as a share of available, chloride where it matters, moisture, and 90% of granules between 2 and 4 mm with a crushing strength that survives bagging and spreading.
UN Comtrade 2024 data put reported exports of NPK (HS 3105.20) at about USD 4.79 billion, led by Morocco (16.5%) and Belgium (13.1%), with the Netherlands, China (5.8%), Spain, Poland and Germany behind and Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt shipping smaller volumes; the wider HS 3105 group of mixed fertilizers was about USD 28.65 billion. China has restricted exports of DAP, MAP and certain NPK formulations since mid-March 2026, extended at least through August 2026, so Chinese NPK is offered only where a producer can show the grade is cleared for export. CBIL brokers compound NPK against an SGS, Intertek or Bureau Veritas certificate of analysis for each nutrient, water-soluble P₂O₅, moisture, size and crushing strength, and cadmium where the destination regulates it (the EU Fertilising Products Regulation 2019/1009 sets 60 mg Cd per kg P₂O₅ for phosphate-containing products), with a certificate of origin, in bulk, 50 kg printed PP bags and jumbo bags. Prices follow published NPK assessments such as Argus, CRU and Fertilizer Week, per MT on grade.

Excluded origins are not offered, including product re-exported, blended or re-processed through a third country. Every lot moves with a certificate of origin naming the producing plant, mine or grower country, and nothing is quoted before the seller and loading point are known.

NPK Compound Fertilizer Grades — buyer questions
Compound NPK or a bulk blend?
A compound granule carries every nutrient, so the field gets the declared ratio even after long handling. A bulk blend of urea, DAP and MOP is cheaper and flexible but can segregate by granule size and density. Pay for compound where application is uneven or crops are sensitive; blend where spreaders are good and the ratio changes by field.
Why does 12-12-17+2MgO cost more than 16-16-16?
Potash-led low-chloride grades usually take their potassium from sulphate of potash rather than muriate, and add magnesium, for crops that react badly to chloride. Check the chloride figure on the certificate: a 12-12-17 made from muriate is a different, cheaper product.
Can I buy Chinese NPK in 2026?
China restricted exports of DAP, MAP and certain NPK formulations from mid-March 2026, extended at least through August 2026. A Chinese offer is worked only where the producer shows the grade is cleared for export; otherwise Morocco, European producers, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt are the realistic routes.
What does an EU buyer need on cadmium?
Under EU Regulation 2019/1009, phosphate-containing fertilizers sold as EU fertilising products must stay within 60 mg cadmium per kg of P₂O₅, and some member states apply lower national limits. Cadmium comes from the phosphate rock and cannot be removed later, so it is certified at load.
