Potassium Nitrate & Calcium Nitrate
NOP 13-0-46 and calcium nitrate 15.5% N for fertigation
Potassium nitrate and calcium nitrate are the two nitrate salts at the core of fertigation. NOP 13-0-46 supplies potassium and nitrate nitrogen with no chloride, fully water-soluble in its greenhouse grade and prilled or granular for field use; calcium nitrate at 15.5% total nitrogen (about 14.4% nitrate and 1.1% ammoniacal) with about 26.5% CaO is the soluble calcium source that prevents blossom-end rot, bitter pit and tipburn in tomatoes, peppers, apples and leafy crops. The two cannot share a stock tank with sulphates and phosphates because calcium precipitates, so growers run them in an A tank alongside micronutrient chelates. Fertigation grades are contracted on nutrient content, water-insolubles, pH, sodium and chloride, and on free-flowing crystals or prills; field grades on nutrients, moisture and size.
UN Comtrade 2024 data put reported potassium nitrate exports (HS 2834.21) at about USD 0.79 billion, led by Chile (42.6%), Jordan (14.3%), the Netherlands (12.5%) and China (12.4%), with Spain and Denmark behind; calcium nitrate (HS 3102.60) at about USD 0.36 billion, led by China (36.9%), South Africa (17.0%), Czechia (8.7%), Slovakia (8.1%) and Egypt (7.5%). Both salts are reportable explosives precursors under EU Regulation 2019/1148, and many importing countries require an import permit for nitrates, so every order is placed against a named receiver, stated agricultural end use and the destination's licence. Egypt applies a 10% export duty on nitrogen fertilizers under Decree No. 258 of 2026. CBIL brokers both against an SGS, Intertek or Bureau Veritas certificate of analysis and a certificate of origin, in 25 kg lined bags, 50 kg bags and jumbo bags. Prices are negotiated per MT on grade, with published specialty fertilizer assessments as reference points.

Potassium Nitrate & Calcium Nitrate — buyer questions
Why can I not mix calcium nitrate with MKP or sulphates?
Calcium reacts with phosphate and sulphate in concentrated stock solution and precipitates, blocking drippers and wasting nutrients. Keep calcium nitrate, potassium nitrate and chelates in the A tank and phosphates, sulphates and magnesium in the B tank.
What paperwork does a nitrate order need?
A certificate of analysis and certificate of origin, plus the receiver's name and agricultural end use, because both salts are reportable explosives precursors in the EU and many countries license nitrate imports. Have your import permit ready before asking for an offer.
Which origins supply potassium nitrate?
UN Comtrade 2024 data show Chile, Jordan, the Netherlands and China supplied over 80% of reported potassium nitrate exports. Calcium nitrate comes mainly from China, South Africa, Czechia, Slovakia and Egypt.
Fertigation grade or field grade?
Fertigation grade is crystalline or fine and fully soluble with low insolubles, for drip and hydroponic systems. Field grade is prilled or granular for spreading and is cheaper. Using field grade in a drip system risks blocked emitters.
