Calcium Chloride (Flakes, Prills & Liquid)
74–77% flakes, 94–97% anhydrous prills and 35% liquid
Calcium chloride (HS 2827.20) is bought by concentration and form, because the buyer is paying for CaCl₂ and the rest is water. Dihydrate flakes at 74–77% CaCl₂ are the standard de-icing and dust-control product; anhydrous prills, granules and powder at 94–97% carry more salt per tonne of freight and are the form oilfield service companies use to build clear brine drilling, workover and completion fluids, where calcium chloride raises density quickly with little added volume and lowers water activity so shales do not swell; and liquid calcium chloride at around 35% is sprayed on roads and unpaved haul routes for anti-icing and dust suppression, or blended at the terminal. The certificate shows CaCl₂ content, magnesium chloride and alkali chlorides, water-insolubles, iron, pH and, for prills, size distribution. Calcium chloride dissolves with heat and absorbs moisture from the air, so bag integrity matters more than the chemistry once it leaves the plant. Supplier safety data sheets list it as not regulated for DOT, IMDG and IATA transport. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 2827.20 total about USD 562 million across 88 reporters: China USD 238 million and 1.40 million MT, the Netherlands USD 50 million, the USA USD 40 million and 100,000 MT, Finland USD 31 million and 144,000 MT, Egypt USD 26 million, Oman USD 4.8 million and 14,900 MT, and Türkiye USD 4.0 million. Those are declared export values, not offers.
The buyer is a road authority or de-icing distributor ahead of winter, a drilling-fluids or completion-fluids company, a mining or quarry operator controlling haul-road dust, a concrete or precast plant using it as an accelerator, a food processor (calcium chloride is also used as a firming agent, in a food grade with its own specification) or a chemical distributor. De-icing and dust-control buyers want flakes or liquid in volume and on time for the season; oilfield buyers want 94–97% prills with a tight insolubles figure and supply near the base. Documents are the certificate of analysis (COA), the safety data sheet (SDS), a certificate of origin, REACH registration cover for EU imports and, for food grade, halal or kosher certificates where the market requires them. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers calcium chloride flakes, prills, powder and liquid from Chinese, US, Dutch, Finnish, Omani and Turkish producers and trader positions, in 25 kg bags, 1 MT jumbo bags and, for liquid, IBCs, ISO tanks or road tankers, on FOB, CFR, CIF and DAP terms. Price is per MT and depends on concentration, form and pack. Send the form, CaCl₂ content, use, monthly or seasonal tonnage and discharge port, and the enquiry is screened and worked against it.

Calcium Chloride (Flakes, Prills & Liquid) — buyer questions
Flakes, prills or liquid — which should I buy?
Flakes (74–77%) for de-icing and dust control where cost per tonne of product is what matters. Anhydrous prills or powder (94–97%) where you pay freight a long way or need maximum CaCl₂ per tonne, as in oilfield brines. Liquid (~35%) where you have tank storage and spray equipment near the source. Compare offers on delivered cost per tonne of contained CaCl₂.
Is calcium chloride dangerous goods?
Supplier safety data sheets list calcium chloride as not regulated for DOT, IMDG and IATA transport, so it ships as general cargo. It is hygroscopic and releases heat when it dissolves, so bags must be intact and kept dry, and the SDS handling section still applies.
Which countries export the most calcium chloride?
UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 2827.20 total about USD 562 million: China USD 238 million and 1.40 million MT, the Netherlands USD 50 million, the USA USD 40 million, Finland USD 31 million, Egypt USD 26 million, Oman USD 4.8 million and Türkiye USD 4.0 million. Those are declared values, not offers.
What do oilfield buyers check?
CaCl₂ content (94–97% anhydrous), water-insolubles, magnesium and iron, because insolubles and impurities cloud a clear brine and can damage the formation. Ask for those figures on the certificate of analysis for each lot, with the SDS and certificate of origin.
