Stabilised H₂O₂ solutions for pulp, textiles, mining and water

Hydrogen peroxide (HS 2847.00) is sold as an aqueous solution by weight percentage, and the percentage decides both the price per tonne and the dangerous-goods rules. The standard trade strengths are 35%, 50%, 60% and 70%, stabilised so the solution does not decompose in storage. Under the dangerous-goods lists, solutions of 20% to 60% hydrogen peroxide are UN 2014, class 5.1 oxidiser with a class 8 corrosive subsidiary risk, packing group II; solutions above 60% are UN 2015, class 5.1 with class 8 subsidiary risk, packing group I. The higher strength carries more peroxide per tonne of freight but stricter packing and handling rules, so the buyer weighs freight saved against the extra cost of the package. The certificate shows H₂O₂ content, stabiliser, free acidity, non-volatile residue (evaporation residue) and, for electronic or food uses, specific metal limits. Packing is vented HDPE drums, IBCs and, for larger buyers, stainless or suitably lined ISO tanks, all kept clean because contamination triggers decomposition. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 2847.00 total about USD 828 million across 84 reporters: Belgium USD 129 million and 235,000 MT, the Netherlands USD 96 million and 179,000 MT, Korea USD 77 million and 184,000 MT, Germany USD 63 million, Brazil USD 61 million, Thailand USD 54 million, Türkiye USD 13 million and Indonesia USD 12.7 million and 20,000 MT. Those are declared export values, not offers.

The buyer is a pulp and paper mill bleaching chemical or mechanical pulp, a textile mill bleaching cotton, a mining operation, a water or wastewater utility, an aseptic food-packaging line, or a chemical distributor. In the EU, hydrogen peroxide is a restricted explosives precursor under Regulation (EU) 2019/1148, applied since 1 February 2021: it may not be made available to, or introduced, possessed or used by, members of the general public above 12% w/w (Annex I, with an upper limit of 35% w/w for any member-state licence), while sales to professional users continue, with the seller verifying the customer's identity, business and intended use and reporting suspicious transactions within 24 hours.
