Sodium Sulphate Anhydrous (SSA)
Detergent and glass grade Na₂SO₄ at 99% minimum
Sodium sulphate anhydrous (SSA, Na₂SO₄, HS 2833.11) comes from two sources: natural deposits of mirabilite and thenardite brines, and by-product streams from viscose, chromium chemicals, lithium and other chemical processes. Buyers treat them the same once the certificate meets the grade. Detergent grade at 99% minimum is a filler and processing aid in powder detergents, where it controls flow and bulk density; glass grade is a fining agent in the batch that helps remove small bubbles from float, container and fibreglass melts, and glassmakers watch iron closely; textile grade is a levelling salt in reactive and direct dyeing, and the pulp industry uses it as a make-up chemical in the kraft process. The certificate shows Na₂SO₄ content, whiteness, water-insolubles, chloride, iron (Fe), calcium and magnesium, moisture and pH, with textile, glass and reagent grades held to tighter chloride, iron and insolubles limits. Sodium sulphate is not dangerous goods for transport. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 2833.11 total about USD 515 million across 65 reporters: China USD 293 million and 4.47 million MT, Spain USD 114 million, the USA USD 25 million, India USD 23 million, Türkiye USD 8.8 million and Canada USD 8.7 million and 77,000 MT. China and Spain together account for about four-fifths of the value. Those are declared export values, not offers.
The buyer is a powder detergent plant, a float or container glass plant, a textile dyehouse, a kraft pulp mill, or a chemical distributor serving all four. Detergent plants buy in volume and look at whiteness and flow; glass plants look at iron and consistency from lot to lot; dyehouses need clean dissolution with low insolubles. Documents are the certificate of analysis (COA), the safety data sheet (SDS), a certificate of origin and REACH registration cover for EU imports. CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers detergent, glass and textile grade sodium sulphate anhydrous from Chinese, Spanish, US, Indian, Turkish and Canadian producers and trader positions, in 50 kg or 25 kg PP bags with liner and 1 MT jumbo bags, containerised or breakbulk, on FOB, CFR, CIF and DAP terms. Price is per MT and depends on grade, whiteness and pack. Send the grade, the iron and whiteness limits you buy against, the monthly tonnage and the discharge port, and the enquiry is screened and worked against it.

Sodium Sulphate Anhydrous (SSA) — buyer questions
What is the difference between detergent and glass grade?
Both are 99% minimum Na₂SO₄. Detergent grade is bought on whiteness and flow, because it is a filler in the finished powder. Glass grade is bought on iron and consistency, because iron colours glass and the batch needs the same sulphate every lot. Textile grade adds a tight insolubles limit so the dye bath stays clean.
Does natural or by-product sodium sulphate matter?
Not if the certificate meets your grade. Natural sodium sulphate comes from mirabilite and thenardite deposits; by-product sulphate comes from viscose and other chemical processes. Ask for Na₂SO₄, whiteness, iron, chloride and insolubles on the certificate of analysis for each lot.
Which countries export the most sodium sulphate anhydrous?
UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 2833.11 total about USD 515 million: China USD 293 million and 4.47 million MT, Spain USD 114 million, the USA USD 25 million, India USD 23 million, Türkiye USD 8.8 million and Canada USD 8.7 million. Those are declared values, not offers.
How is it shipped?
As non-dangerous cargo in 50 kg or 25 kg PP bags with liner or 1 MT jumbo bags, in containers or breakbulk, on FOB, CFR, CIF or DAP terms, with the certificate of analysis, safety data sheet and certificate of origin.
