A compound feed mill runs on two streams: macro ingredients that arrive by the vessel or the rail car (energy grains at 50–65% of a poultry ration, protein meals at 20–30%, fibre and by-product meals for ruminants) and micro ingredients that arrive by the container (amino acids at 0.1–0.5%, phosphates and limestone at 1–2%, salt, choline and vitamin-mineral premixes at fractions of a percent). The macros are bought on protein, energy, moisture and mycotoxin certificates; the micros on assay, particle size and shelf life. A 300,000 MT-a-year mill takes a Handysize of corn every few weeks, a Supramax share of soybean meal each month, and a steady flow of containers whose late arrival stops the line as surely as an empty grain silo. The basket on this page is plant, marine and mineral: fishmeal and fish oil are in, halal-certified sources are specified for any ingredient that can be animal-derived, and no meat meals, tallow or porcine-derived fats are worked.
CBIL is a commodity brokerage company and brokers each ingredient against the certificates a nutritionist reads — SGS, Intertek or Bureau Veritas analyses of crude protein, moisture, fat, fibre, ash, urease and KOH solubility on meals; test weight, moisture, damaged kernels and aflatoxin on grains; protein, TVN, histamine and antioxidant on fishmeal; assay and heavy metals on amino acids and phosphates — with the destination feed-authority registration checked before an offer. Each ingredient below has its own page on this site with its own trade figures and specifications. Because CBIL also runs a chartering desk (LaycanDesk), the grain and meal parcels are fixed on Handysize and Supramax tonnage with the seed-cake and fishmeal IMSBC schedules applied, and the micros are booked on liner terms to the same port, so the mill sees one landed cost per tonne of finished feed.

Feed Corn (Yellow Maize)
The energy base of poultry and pig rations, bought on test weight, moisture, broken kernels and foreign material, and above all on aflatoxin and fumonisin certificates at load. Energy grain for poultry and ruminant rations where it prices under corn, bought on test weight, moisture, sprouted and damaged kernel counts and DON (vomitoxin). Feed Barley
The ruminant and camel feed grain of the Red Sea and North African markets. UN Comtrade 2025 export declarations under HS 1003 (malting and feed together) place Australia at 8.94 million MT at an average USD 242/MT, Argentina 2.75 million MT at USD 226, Canada 2.42 million MT at USD 246, Kazakhstan 1.75 million MT at USD 184 and Turkiye 1.00 million MT at USD 244; Australia's 2025 destinations include China 6.52 million MT, Saudi Arabia 0.59 million MT and Japan 0.54 million MT.
Feed Sorghum (Milo)
Corn substitute at about 95–97% of corn's energy value in pig and poultry rations, priced a few percent under corn delivered. UN Comtrade 2025 export declarations under HS 1007 place Australia at 2.37 million MT at an average USD 280/MT and Argentina at 1.18 million MT at USD 209, with the USA declaring USD 521 million without a tonnage figure; Australia's 2025 trade is 94.5% to China, then Kenya and the Philippines.
Soybean Meal (Hipro 46% – 48%)
The protein base of every poultry and aquafeed ration, bought on protein and on processing quality (urease activity and KOH protein solubility) that shows whether the meal was toasted enough to kill anti-nutritional factors without damaging lysine. Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS)
Corn-ethanol co-product replacing part of the soybean meal and corn in poultry, pig and ruminant rations. UN Comtrade 2025 export declarations under HS 2303 show the USA at 13.39 million MT at an average USD 253/MT: Mexico 2.38 million MT at USD 229, Korea 1.51 million MT at USD 218, Vietnam 1.17 million MT at USD 240, Indonesia 1.13 million MT at USD 283, Colombia 0.88 million MT, Turkiye 0.77 million MT at USD 282 and Japan 0.57 million MT; the Asian averages sit above the Mexican one because most of that tonnage moves in containers with the freight inside the declared value.
Palm Kernel Expeller (PKE)
Fibre-and-energy ingredient for dairy and beef rations and a cheap filler in ruminant compound feed. UN Comtrade 2025 export declarations under HS 2306 show Indonesia at 5.37 million MT at an average USD 126/MT and Malaysia at 2.39 million MT at USD 131/MT — together the world PKE trade; Indonesia's 2025 destinations run New Zealand 1.79 million MT, the Netherlands 1.24 million MT, Vietnam 0.59 million MT, China 0.58 million MT, Korea 0.56 million MT and Saudi Arabia 0.17 million MT. Rice Bran & De-Oiled Rice Bran (DORB)
Energy and fibre ingredient from rice mills and extraction plants for ruminant, poultry and aqua rations. UN Comtrade 2025 export declarations under HS 2302 (a heading that groups rice with wheat and other cereal brans) show India at 89,600 MT at an average USD 320/MT and Thailand and other Southeast Asian millers behind it. India has restricted de-oiled rice bran exports since 2023 (current status checked before any Indian offer); the exporter's licence and destination feed-authority registration are checked before we offer.
Fishmeal (Super Prime, Prime & Standard)
The protein anchor of shrimp and fish feed and of starter rations. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 2301.20 put Peru at 959,668 MT (833,637 MT of it to China), Chile 252,945 MT, India 208,151 MT, Thailand 183,890 MT, Denmark 161,691 MT, Morocco 156,868 MT, Oman 69,486 MT and Mauritania 59,696 MT. Omega-3 energy source for salmon, shrimp and marine fish feed. UN Comtrade 2024 export declarations under HS 1504.20 put Denmark at 108,125 MT (87,152 MT of it to Norway), Norway 102,813 MT, Chile 99,816 MT, Peru 99,662 MT (USD 675 million), the USA 40,488 MT, Iceland 34,506 MT, Morocco 23,488 MT and Mauritania 5,927 MT; on the import side Norway declared 184,380 MT, the USA 104,415 MT, Chile 82,716 MT, Turkiye 78,542 MT and China 64,621 MT. Feed-Grade Limestone (Calcium Carbonate)
Calcium source for layer and broiler rations (up to 8–10% of a layer diet) and a carrier in premixes, bought on Ca content, particle size for eggshell quality and heavy-metal limits; ground calcium carbonate is also covered on its own page in the alkali chemicals family. Vitamin & Trace-Mineral Premixes
Vitamin A, D3, E, K and B-complex with trace minerals (Zn, Mn, Fe, Cu, Se, I) blended to a mill's own matrix at 0.1–0.5% inclusion. Grain Code Carriage and Hold Preparation
Grains are carried under the International Grain Code with stability calculations for shifting, and holds are grain-clean (washed, dried, free of previous cargo residue and insects) with a fumigation plan agreed for the voyage where the destination requires it.
Seed Cake and Fishmeal IMSBC Schedules
Soybean meal, PKE and rice bran ship under the IMSBC SEED CAKE schedule (Group B) with residual oil and moisture declared, and bulk fishmeal under its own Group B schedule since 1 January 2025; LaycanDesk writes ventilation, temperature monitoring and antioxidant declarations into the fixture.
Molasses and Fish Oil Parcel Tankers
Molasses is pumped at 35–40 °C from heated tanks and fish oil is carried in vegoil-class Annex II tankers with previous-cargo restrictions; both are fixed on parcel tankers with heating coils and cargo-history certificates.

Amino acids, phosphates, choline, salt and premixes are booked on weekly liner sailings to arrive in the same week as the grain or meal vessel, so the mill's silo cover and its micro-ingredient stock run on one calendar.

Which ingredients are in this basket and which are not?
The basket is plant, marine and mineral: grains, oilseed and cereal by-product meals, fishmeal and fish oil, molasses, amino acids, phosphates, choline, limestone, salt and premixes. Halal-certified sources are specified for any ingredient that can be animal-derived. Meat and bone meal, tallow and porcine-derived fats are not worked.
How are grains certified at load?
SGS, Intertek, Bureau Veritas or the origin's official grain inspection service certify grade, test weight, moisture, damaged and broken kernels, foreign material and mycotoxins (aflatoxin, DON, fumonisin) on composite samples drawn during loading, together with a phytosanitary certificate and fumigation certificate where required.
Can a mill buy soybean meal and corn on one vessel?
Yes, where origin ports align (US Gulf, Santos/Paranaguá or Up-River Argentina load both). The two grades are stowed in separate holds with separate bills of lading, and the Grain Code and SEED CAKE requirements are each applied to their own holds.
Do feed additives need registration at destination?
Most destinations register feed additives and premixes with the national feed or veterinary authority before import. The registration status of the product and the exporter's licence are checked before an offer is made, and the certificate of analysis, GMP+ or FAMI-QS certificate and halal certificate travel with the shipping documents.
